Hi i had a <snip> worth of heroin on friday afternoon but today i received my nalorex its the first time i will be using i did a fake test at the clinic to provide a negative urine sample etc its now monday almost 1pm and im thinking about scoring and i cant get it out of my head. My question is do you think i will be ok taking the tablet now so i dont score otherwise im going to have to wait another 4 days.

Were you using heroin or any other opioids before the last time you used or did you have a break? If you aren't currently physically dependent on opioids it should be ok to take the Nalorex. Meaning if you weren't using heroin/opioids every day recently and don't get withdrawal symptoms when you stop.

Thanks i ended up scoring :( Its just guys i know say if i have H in my system it will make me feel sick etc Anymore feedback welcome as i just want to get on them asap so i can try rebuild my life.

I figured you'd probably score. Sorry no one replied to your post sooner :(

The problem with taking Nalorex (naltrexone) too soon after heroin is if you are physically dependent (meaning you get withdrawal symptoms if you don't use heroin). If someone is not physically dependent on heroin, like say they have just used heroin once after a while of not using any (and aren't using other opioids in between), then it should not be a problem to take the Nalorex. If you are physically dependent, like say you've been using heroin every day, then the Nalorex will make you sick if you take it too soon after the heroin. This is called precipitated withdrawal. Basically the naltrexone rips all the heroin off the opiate receptors in your brain/body, causing rapid and severe withdrawal symptoms that are like a few days of heroin withdrawal compounded into a short time. If you are not physically dependent on heroin, however, it shouldn't be painful to have any remaining heroin that might still be on your receptors blocked, but I'd wait at least until you don't feel the effects of the heroin anymore to be on the safe side.

Do you get withdrawal symptoms when you don't use heroin?

Hi again and thanks for the reply. I get a runny nose the next 2 days sometimes but that's it.

Not minimizing your experience or suffering, but that isn't bad at all. Congratulations on getting this far. Don't take it too hard that you went and scored, it's the name of the game. Just duke it out day by day, and soon you will feel a comfortable distance between where you are and where you were.

What is your Rx dosage and your usual opiate consumption patters like?

scored again tonight decided taking them first thing on Friday as scoring is becoming to often so not going to take any risks.

Yeah seriously do not score any more. If all you get when you don't use is a couple of days of runny nose you should be counting your blessings and getting the fuck away from dope while you still can. Obviously the mental addiction is an extremely powerful thing but if you need anyone to talk you out of scoring while you wait so you can start the Nalorex, The Dark Side forum is a great place for support with addictions.

Given your situation I would guess that you may not need to wait the full 4 days before taking the Nalorex, but it's hard to say exactly how long you should wait. If it comes down to a situation again where it's been 2 or 3 days since you last used heroin and you're thinking of scoring and afraid to take the Nalorex I'd take the Nalorex. Especially if you don't have any withdrawal symptoms by that time.

Why would they prescribe Nalorex,if you are not addicted too the point of severe withdraw?Unless some people just don't ever get bad withdraw symptoms..God that would be awesome.

Naltrexone isn't a commitment like going on methadone or buprenorphine maintenance therapy. It's not an opioid agonist but an antagonist (blocker) which prevents opioids from working, so stopping you from getting high. You won't become physically dependent on it like you would with methadone/bupe, and have to do a gradual and sometimes difficult taper, so I would imagine that for someone with a lighter habit but who is struggling to get clean it might be a good choice. I'm not sure - it's not commonly available over here in the UK, although naltrexone implants are becoming more popular.

I agree with SwimmingDancer - it sounds like you would probably be okay not waiting as you don't experience severe withdrawal symptoms (just a runny nose is very mild really) - ideally you should wait anyway but I agree that if you can't wait without scoring then it's probably better to just take the naltrexone sooner. Let us know how you get on! :)

Thanks for the reply s I got myself off methadone around 6 months ago and id been using a few times a week since then. Anyway today on my birthday i took my tablet and Ive felt better lol So far feeling very tired but even if i go to bed I cant sleep. Also i seem to be getting chills and of course a mild cold. lots of yawning too.

Hopefully it resolves soon! Maybe you were starting to get more physically dependent on dope. Good for you for having the strength to take the Nalorex rather than continuing to use heroin and I hope you feel better soon :)

Please don't hesitate to post in The Dark Side forum I linked above if you want any support with quitting or coping with cravings.

Yesyesyes.

I'm glad to hear you took your pill and dint go get more heroin. I'm on bupe and I've been curious about a treatment with something like nalorex. I feel like I can't willingly block myself from getting high though, oh the mind of an addict.

Like someone else said, if you are a couple days without h and your options are either taking the nalorex or getting more heroin, I'd take the nalorex. I hope you're never in that situation again but just in case.

Good luck :)
