Opioids URGENT. CDC has issued a health advisory warning linking TTP with IV use of new Opana

An investigation is going on currently where iv use of the new opana ER formulation is being linked with the very serious and life threatening disease Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP).
all these cases came out between February 2012 and October 2012.

I'm urging everyone who has or is planning on attempting to IV the new opana's to stop doing this.
Here is the short description from the that link of what TTP is: "TTP is an uncommon but serious illness, with an incidence of approximately 1 per 100,000 per year and a high case-fatality rate if not treated. Fewer than 15% of TTP cases can be attributed to specific exposures, with quinine and anti-platelet drugs being the primary substances responsible. Drugs are thought to cause TTP by an immune-mediated mechanism or by direct toxicity. Abnormally low levels of ADAMTS13 are found in some but not all cases. Most cases of drug-associated TTP occur in women."

Also it appears that oral use of the new Opana ER's is not linked with TTP, as of right now I am unsure about insullfation : "No cases of TTP related to oral use of Opana ER® have been reported, and nothing indicates that use of Opana ER® as prescribed presents a risk of TTP." taken from the CDC link.

If anyone has more information we should compile it in this thread, I also am urging all of you to warn your friends or anyone you may know who is currently shooting the new opana ER's.

A tragic side effect of "abuse proofing" these pills when in reality they only care about renewing their patent and forcing generic manufacturers out of the market in the name of safety.

be prepared for a new reformulation now, and in the mean time a drastic increase in I.v. heroin and dilaudid use. when pharmaceutical companies compete, you lose.
