Upcoming Colonoscopy - Midazolam and Meperidine?

Moderators please don't interpret this as a "how can I get drugs out of my doctor?" thread, as I simply want to know what my options are and if this is an unreasonable request.

I have a colonoscopy coming up and am a bit nervous about it. I'd prefer "twilight anesthesia" as opposed to general as there's no way I'm paying all that extra money. From what I've read my options seem to be propophol, midazolam, and meperidine.

Would it be unreasonable or raise eyebrows to explain that I've done my research and would prefer both meperidine and midazolam? I want the procedure to be as anxiety and pain free as possible.

Oh, I also take Adderall which I have read interacts with meperidine, though it seems that this interaction only includes increased analgesia, which certainly wouldn't be a bad thing. Fentanyl is also used in these procedures but there is no way I'm asking for that and I think it would be overkill.

Anyway, any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.

The doctor will make the right choice based off of the information presented to him.

It is up to you to provide the correct information...

You will need to not take your amphetamine that day...

There will not be any anxiety or pain at all if they sedate you correctly. If you have no opiate tolerance you won't need anything more than the initial fent shot, and they'll give you a bit of propofol if you need it. You'll be fine.

Back in 2009 before I had any Benzo tolerance (Glory days) I had an endoscopy and the doctor injected me with Midazolam. The next thing I remember I'm sat next to my hospital bed drinking tea.

I had a colonoscopy a couple months ago and they gave me propofol. It's great stuff, they administer it like nitrous oxide, you are out in 10 seconds, remember and feel nothing, wake up without much grogginess at all. It doesn't work like fentanyl, so if you have use or have a high tolerance to opiates there are no worries, no interactions. Ask for propofol.

you only need to worry if you have an insane tolerance to benzos and opiates like me i'm scared shitless of needing surgery

^ they adjust the meds, you don't have to be scared of that. Just be honest with your doctors if you ever need surgery.

Actually that is sevoflurane, not propofol. Propofol is the milky fluid they inject to sedate you before the gas sometimes.

Whenever I've had to pay extra for general aneasthesia I've used NMDA antagonists with success (for dental surgery) however that was just because they would give me nothing otherwise except local anaesthesia.

You will have to worry about nothing if they use propofol because you won't remember anything anyway.

Well, it seems from further research that Fentanyl and Versed are actually used as the rule, rather than the exception. That sounds kind of exciting! IV Fent and Versed!

But oddly enough, my stomach issues have completely vanished since I started on .25mg of Alprazolam 3x per day.

It's actually just really sedating and cold....

Its not that great. They push the versed and its lights out before you can even enjoy the rush.

I got twilight anesthesia with versed, fentanyl, and a small amout of propophol. Too bad they didn't take a bunch of my physical features into account and I went into respitory depression and had to be woken up mid colonscopy to start breathing again. One of the scarier moments of my life.

That sounds awful. Did they have to use narcan?

I would have probably remembered that, so probably not, but you never know. What I remember is they were berating me for not breathing enough. They lowered the dosages and just told me to keep breathing... you know, cause that's so easy when you're pumped full of downers. I'm still not sure how they fucked up.
