Heroin Unsure/frightened of "muddy" heroin

So I have only been injecting heroin for a month or so. Up until now, all the heroin I've had dissolves into a mostly clear solution, with a brown tint. I then filter by drawing it up through a piece of cotton and then squirt it into one of my veins.

Tonight I bought a new batch of heroin. When I mixed it with water , instead of being mostly clear, the solution was cloudy brown like very muddy water. When I drew it up through a piece of cotton, a very large amount of "dirt" collected on the cotton and I did get a mostly clear solution in the syringe.

I don't know if I am being paranoid or not, but I just feel nervous about injecting this. Can anyone tell me if it is normal to have heroin like this? I am guessing it's just cut with something different than what I'm used to and that's why it does this. But like I said, I'm a bit paranoid.
 
Is this tar heroin?

1. You should be using a micron filter, not cotton.
2. If you feel nervous about IVing it you may want to avoid using that route? Nobody's holding a gun to your head making you inject gunked-up heroin.
 
a lot of lower-quality powdered heroin is like this, at least where i'm from. i've shot it literally thousands of times.

sekio, of course, is right: micron-filtering is a great idea. but since i'm assuming that is not immediately practical for you, perhaps you can squirt the solution into a fresh spoon, suck it up using a fresh cotton and inject using a fresh rig?

this is all just in the interest of harm reduction/peace of mind for you. chances are, it's fine as it is.

I am out of micron filters right now, although I am going to get some more. However i was told that micron filtering was not appropriate for heroin because you can't do a whole lot at once since it converts to morphine if left in solution.

Considering I have tapered my heroin dose all the way down to about $5 per shot and micron filters are $5 eeach, id be spending as much money to filter as I spend on dope, which is ridiculous. Not only that though, in my experience (when I did attempt to micron filter heroin) I couldn't get all the heroin out the filter (although now that I think about, I guess running water through the filter could solve that problem).

Either way though, its just not practical to micron filter heroin.
 
oh and no its not tar heroin. Its powder heroin from Detroit. Like i said I am pretty new to IV and I just wasnt sure if this was normal or not.
