Unsafe OTC products - Australian region

Well for example the Aspalgin effervescent tabs listed above. Does soluble mean the aspirin is dissolving in the water too? How does this work - I thought it would just be the codeine dissolving, I didn't think you could dissolve the aspirin in water.

^ You can, they just have to use a different form of acetylsalicyclic acid; for example, sodium acetylsalicylate is soluble in water. It's for people who don't like taking tablets I guess.

Nice thread. When I was younger and sillier I remember seeing a cough syrup at a friends house, which contained DXM. I drank it without a thought to the other ingredients. This thread will hopefully prevent people making similar mistakes!

anyone have any experience with 'travacalm'? theyre meant for car sickness i think and im not too sure of the chemical name. I remember i used to eat like 5 of these (came in a pack of 10) and used to trip the fuck out. really dissociating and very hard to walk without tripping over your feet lol. used to feel like shit for about a week after. havnt done them since

Travacalm contains the active dimenhydrinate, not to be confused with diphenhydramine. I don't know if this would have much recreational potential at all. If you google around there was some legal action a few years ago where Travacalm included the active at much larger doses than was labelled. There was a bunch of legal action which led to Travacalm being withdrawn from the market then reintroduced by a different manufacturer. Scary stuff.

^ Some people (very few) consider it recreational. Most don't. It makes you delirious, it's not euphoric and it gave me a headache (I tried it once at a younger, sillier age).

I can't think or any particular safety issues regarding other active ingredients it may be combined with (not sure if there are any combo meds out there OTC?), but in overdose it has a range of nasty effects including heart attack, coma and death.

Well Travacalm contains dimenhydrinate 50 mg, hyoscine hydrobromide 0.2mg and caffeine 20mg. It's Schedule II.

I wonder if I should include this in the list?

^ I would. Hyoscine, aka scopolamine, is an anti-cholinergenic like dimenhydrinate is. It can be fatal in overdose, and I'm willing to bet combining it with another anti-cholingergenic is going to lead to increase side-effects and a lower threshold for OD.

OK, thanks for that. I'll add it when I have a minute to do some research and get some links for that stuff.

Just added Bisolvon Dry to the list. Tried it the other night, thinking I could handle the sorbitol content. Once I used 200ml of Rikodeine which is 8.8 grams of sorbitol (44mg/10ml), which is pretty bad, even the 100ml bottles cause a few trips to the toilet. So I read the list of Bisolvon ingredients, thinking 1mg/10ml sounded low but it also had maltitol so thought that that might make up the rest of the sweeteners. Long story short, I had misread the contents and it's actually 1 GRAM/10 ml. No wonder I was shitting up a storm! Pity, all that sweetener made it taste a hell of a lot nicer than my usual DXM product, and actually caused less nausea too! Seems like I need this list too :)

^^ brain damage from restavit? You'd have to be taking pretty huge quanties or over an extended period right? You'd only be exposed to really high quantities if you took them on purpose or were using night strength mersyndol / dolased for CWEs yeh?

Toxicity
Doxylamine succinate is generally safe for administration to healthy adults. Typical preparations that contain doxylamine range from 6.25 mg to 25.0 mg. The LD50 is estimated to be 50–500 mg/kg in humans. Symptoms of overdose may include dry mouth, dilated pupils, insomnia, euphoria, hallucinations, and seizures. Fatalities, while rare, have been recorded. Rarely, an overdose results in rhabdomyolysis and acute renal failure.

It's probably not too bad in terms of sorbitol, but remember that DXM can cause nausea anyway so you might find it makes you sick. Personally the one time I used that brand because I was low on my usual brand, I found it's taste was disgusting and made me feel sick even though I didn't taste much.

Also, 50ml is 150mg of DXM, if you're say 75kg that's only 2mg/kg DXM. If you're only taking 2mg/kg I would guess it's probably one of your first experiences with DXM (I think most people who have tried DXM several times would tend to go for at least 2nd plateau). Not suggesting that you take more, just saying that if you haven't used DXM that much then you might find the nausea worse than someone who's experienced with it and that the sorbitol will probably make that worse.

This will be my first experience.

I am 60kg so that will be 2.5mg/kg that should be a nice first dose to see how it goes then i will go buy some proper stuff to see how it goes.

Ok quick question, need a fast response.

If i dose 150mg now will I be able to sleep in 3-4 hours?

Thanks

^ Maybe, maybe not. We can't really answer that for you, it's your first time and we don't know how you are going to react.

That is a low dose, so it's possibly you may be able to sleep. If you absolutely need that sleep though, give it a miss.

ok guys a little bit of an update.

I drank 50ml of the most disgusting stuff ever and about a minute later i threw up like 5 times not sure if it's from the stuff inside it or if it's because it tasted so bad. Will i still trip or on please reply ASAP
