Unisom (doxylamine) isn't really sedating for me unless used in conjunction with something else and benedryl wires me up. Has anyone used unisom for short term anxiety relief? My xanax script isn't due for a week or so and while I know unisom is no benzo subsitute I was just wondering if anyone may have tried it for anxiety in a pinch. Anyone? Thanks.

Doxylamine Succinate does not work on GABA receptors like benzos, which I'm sure you are aware of. I don't see it having much of an anti anxiety effect, unless you consider being groggy to be less anxious. Are you abusing your xanax script, since you ran out early? If you are, you might want to reconsider what you're doing, as benzos are no joke. If your script isn't adequate to control your anxiety, I'd talk to your doctor.

In theory the sedation itself would be enough to at least help with anxiety relief, although you said it isn't very sedating for you so it might not do anything.

Worth a shot though, if you ask me.

As to the first question I'm not necessarily abusing my xanax in that I've been on 1mg 3x a day for 6 years but when I do have them I go through them fast. I think I'm lucky in one respect because I've never suffered w/d and the anxiety that I usually feel even currently doesn't seem to change the xanax just makes it more bearable. If I never got another xanax script I believe I could live but its much nicer to have one. And I guess sedated is more ok by me for anxiety as I would only take unisom in the evening but I will give it a go and see how it works. Anyone else have thoughts?
