Underrated / Underappreciated Artists

WHAT?????!?!?!!! C-Rayz, yeah. MURS, no. MURS is badass.

I thought you were saying Murs was overrated. This thread switched from underrated to overrated somehow; not sure why.

But everytime I have seen a Def Jux show, those two clowns are at the bottom of the bill. I guess it's hard trying to compete with the genius that is Mr. Lif and Aesop Rock.

I'd give the rest of my under-rated list, but most of you probably don't know or dispise singers like joanna newsom out of the premise of her voice alone.

i feel ya man, joanna newsom is a freakin goddess i love her voice but all my friends hate it and give me shit for it

plus she plays harp how cool

Here is an example of joanna newsom

laaaa laaal laallalal llalaa (all whiny)

Just kidding, but some of her songs do piss me off and the harp is cool.

But you're still a pussy lostinvoid, go watch murder she wrote and play saxophone (all in the most sarcastic tone I can manage)

what does everyone think of (the legendry IMO) killswitch engage? one of my favourite metal bands, before Howard and roadrunner fucked it all up

I think they are very good, but not underrated. Magazines all over the place were giving them "band of the year," "album of the year," they were nominated for a goddamn grammy, ect. Their popularity is at a very high level right now, so I wouldn't call them underrated.

And I don't think Howard Jones "ruined" them either. He figured out his vocal style by the time "The end of heartache" came around. His voice also sounds awesome live now as well.

KSE = good shit.

WTF? never would have thought that, but personally i think Howard should stick to shouting (or whatever the fuck it is). i think his singing voice lacks any real soul, unlike Jessie leach who fuckin tore it up in both respects.
but i prefere Howard in blood has been shed, he should concentrate more on that i think.

Also Jim Morrison was a spiritual and visionary pioneer, the reason people idolize him so much is because he managed to infuse his music with meaning and emotion, unlike some bling bling rapper bullshit. If you can't appreciate the genius of the Lizard King there is no hope for you, try reading some Blake and some Ginsberg, and it might help. Mind you from your previous post's I get the feeling you don't listen to the doors and Jim morrison was just an example you used, but don't insult him even in ignorance, he was a genius the like of which we may never see again.
RIP Jim Morrison.

Jim Morrison is a fucking joke. He's a hack with a pretty face who merely ripped off 18th century poetry. Fuck the Doors.

Yeah, that's another thing. You're IN A BAND when you play shows you are supposed to PERFORM. Not rant and rave because you're a drunken moron.

Yeah, "the end of heartache" was nominated for the grammy for "best heavy metal song;" this is an absolute joke category, as the grammys are a commercial awards ceremony and metal is an undeground genre.

Best Metal Performance (For solo, duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)

• Nymphetamine by Cradle Of Filth

Track from: Nymphetamine [Roadrunner Records]

• Live For This by Hatebreed

Track from: The Rise Of Brutality [Universal Records]

• The End Of Heartache by Killswitch Engage

Track from: The End Of Heartache [Roadrunner Records]

• Whiplash by Motörhead [Big Deal Records]

• Vermilion by Slipknot

Track from: Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) [Roadrunner Records]

Big suprise, the judges picked the only band old enough that they may have ever heard them: Motorhead. Such a joke...no one has given a shit about Motorhead for YEARS.

However, from what I have heard, his drunken antics on stage were extremely entertaining. All the members of the band claim that regardless of how drunk he was (unless he physically couldn't move or something), he had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand. That says something for his ability as a performer.

Maybe his audience is comprised of a bunch of fucking morons. Just a thought.

Never liked BHBS much, and I don't see Howard giving up on Killswitch anytime soon; they are practically rock stars at this point.

Ehh, I like Morrison. I think he is an interesting character, and he really was trying to do someting original and unique with his lyrics. While other bands were singing poppy love songs, Morrison was trying to create something revolutionary. I admit his voice isn't the most amazing thing in the world, but I think he was definitely creative lyrically and his voice was quite unique for the time.

Did you miss my point about him ripping off old poetry? I admittedly like a few Doors songs, but for the most part they are just not very good. Manzerek is a pompous twat any way you look at him. Anyway, this isn't the thread for it, I just get pissed off when people call Morrison a "genius." Fuck that.
