Underrated / Underappreciated Artists

im tellin ya, 18 albums in 15 years. Id be happy to rip Scrolls of the Megiloth for ya, its a pretty decent death metal album (circa 1992). I think fans of morbid angel would dig it. leads arent necessarily impressive for the genere, and neither is the percussion. guitar composition is fairly simple, vocals on par. they do however do some cool progressions (all songs like 10+ mins on that album - back when they were grindcore typical 1:40 songs) and maintain a unique sound, but were undeniably death metal during that period.

ive seen em live twice, but was after they were death metal, and like crappy thrash and power metal. but the lead singer is real cool he has his own record label thats pretty much all of the pacific's (mainly australia, but apparently the phillipines and some of SE asia has a metal scene) most underground death/black/grind/thrash metal. Bands like Horde, Metanoia, Kekal, Paramaecium(black metal, death metal, noise metal, death/gloom metal), you're never going to find on any p2p machine, well cuz most metal heads arent really that internet savvy. Atually paramaeceium got some recognization a while back, they are kind of like my dying bride if u dig that stuff (but with like crazy epic 15 minute songs and shit).

not criticizing your tastes by any means, b/c you've listed a bunch of groups here in this forum lately that i've checked out and liked quite a bit, but we need to work on broadening your horizons ;)

john frusciante (not sure on the spelling.....rhcp guitarist)

I can appreciate that most of the under appreicated bands in this thread are metal, so the majority of you mightened get into him.... and although he has found plenty of glory in the chilli's, i think his solo stuff goes unoticed, well over in Australia anyway.

blood has been shed - i don't know any other metal band that have affected me on such a level. howards vocals (for me) beat any other metal vocalist for sheer force and aggresion. then add the endless chugging riffs of death, throw in a few polyrythms and you've got yourself a stupidly amazing and under-rated band.
favorite song HAS TO BE begginers luck.
all you dudes should really check this if you like your metal cold dead and spine-tappingly harsh.

blood has been shed is pretty fuckin sick, homie.

i didn't really dig the new album as much as the last release though. it sounded too polished. and I wish he would quit killswitcha nd focus on this band, which has alot more potential.

Let me first say that almost every good artist out there is underappreciated if you compare the attention they get compared to the ammount the bullshit popsters get. I think the most unappreciated are:
The Mars Volta
At The Drive In
Mr Bungle (Mike Patton in general really)
King Crimson
Tin Machine (I don't care how bad they were, taking into account the rest of bowie's shit in the 80's it deserves recognition as something original if not good)
Jaco Pastorius
Led Zeppelin (still not enough appreciation for these gods of rock, they should have their own religeon)
Mogwai
Time Lapse Consortium (better than incubus in my opinion)
Gruvis Malt
I realize that alot of them get recognition but I don't think they get enough

yeah the earlier stuff is definitly better, especially the first album (immortal!).
howard needs to get his priorities right, as much as i USED to love killswitch, they've let roadrunner fuck em up the bum and now they make shite.
plus howard does'nt use half his vocal strength with killswitch, and lets face it the man can't sing.

How could he broaden his horizons any further? He already listens to death metal, black metal, heavy metal, thrash metal, doom metal, power metal, viking metal....what more is there?

;)

Amazing bands.

I think a lot of rappers do not get the credit or recognition they deserve. There are so many people in the world today who consider themselves hip hop fans, and over half of them probably have no idea who KRS One or Rakim are, and I'm not just talking abiout a casual listener either, I know people who really consider themselves hip hop heads and they only listen to G Unit and Jay Z.

A lot of these so called hip hop fans don't even know or understand anything about the culture that spawned the music or about the original artists who laid the foundation for hip hop. If I asked them what the four elements of hip hop were, they would probably have no idea what the hell I was talking about.

I think the underated talent in the hip hop scene is actually better off without the mainstream attention, but it would be nice to see some of the greats get the recognition they deserve.

MC, DJ, graffiti and break dancing. Beat boxing is also thrown in sometimes too as the fifth element. Some people also consider knowledge to be one as well.

The mars volta under-rated? heh, you guys are rich.

If you're going to talk about under-rated hip-hop artists, sage francis tops my list. I'm not a big fan of his latest album, but his delivery is second to none.

I'd give the rest of my under-rated list, but most of you probably don't know or dispise singers like joanna newsom out of the premise of her voice alone.

Ay-men

Aight
its goin off topic a little but another thing that pisses me off is people wont put as much weight on something a rapper says as if a rock cat said it know what i mean?

people go fawning over tthe been-said-before ''deep'' shit that everybody who ever went thru adolecense and had half a artistic wannabe poet mind already thought of
a singer for a band says and it aint like some of this shit aint deep
but peole post up their walls with posters and quotes of some dumb useless ''mysterious'' ''visionary'' garbage that jim morrison or somebody thought up while they was trippin face and prolly wouldnt even remember or put any weight on, and peeps act like its the fuckin gospel

all you gotta do is put some kind of buddhist-style attitude or say something political related about life like "The greatest visions are made by our own minds" or "america is governed by jesters wearing kings crowns" and they eat it up look i just made that shit up now and it could pass for some dumbass fucked-up singers

then somebody whose speakin from the heart and puttin it in un pretentious simple raw words they write it off cuz some ''ign'ant'' ''unedcuated'' "nigga'' 8( said it *spits*

*shakin my head*

it aint no different, why do people act like what one person says dont matter cuz of who they are? it aint how you say it its what you say

damn long post....WRAP IT UP , B!! lol

basically what a musician says is entertainment and also meaningful but why dont you try and find out shit for your own life instead of living by somebodys song lyrics (that goes for everyone)

dont get it twisted i aint saying theres no weight to words cuz there is and i respect some of it

but people got no standards man

speed metal is more or less an adjective to further describe thrash or death, btw...there isnt exactly a singleton genere named that. for example, speed-thrash, etc.

most certainly. FEW people know Kirk Hammet's original band!
