undercover police with sniffer dogs in melbourne CBD

a mate of mine was walking through flinders street station around 9am on tuesday and got searched by undercover police with sniffer dogs.
my mate smokes weed but didnt have any on him at the time but yet the dog still smelled something on him, he had a pair of scissors in his bag that he had used to chop weed with in the past so its possible the dog smelt some residue on the scissors.
anyway my mate was 2 hours late for work due to the fact that the cops had no where to search him as there were loads of other people being searched in that little cop shop at flinders street.
so fellow melbournites be wary carrrying drugs in the CBD and be wary of people with labradores!
the fact that he had nothing on him and was still detected by the sniffer dog has made me paranoid as hell as my bag and wallet has a smell of weed i just cant get rid of.
 
The fact is, it's just not safe to carry anything around with you in the CBD in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane anymore. I've heard countless anecdotes of people being searched while just going about their daily lives, 95% of them had nothing on them at the time, I think it's a blantent violation of human right and once again is attacking the USER not the TRAFFICKER. When will they ever fucking learn.
 
How come whenever I walk past police and put on a druggie act, they don't look at you even.
 
i heard dd are now sealing 10 packs of smackos to melb movers so if a sniffer dog does come by just hook him a smacko and no worrys bobs your uncle
 
i guess this thing is probably common knowledge to people around here, i jsut thought i would mention it incase there were a few naive people around like myself that believed that we lived in a fairly relaxed environment when it comes to drugs eventhough they are illegal.
by that i mean i ahve been taking drugs on a fairly regular basis for the last 10 years and not had one problem with the legalitys of it as i am gernerally a law abiding citizen who doesnt behave in a way that attracts police attention.
but this incident with my friend has got me paranoid about my drug use for the first time as i am worried i will be walking along minding my own business and generally abiding the law but all of a sudden be harrased because police are wandering around with dogs trying to detect random people.
 
Sorry didn't mean to sound like a prick, us forum whores can do that at time :P Nah just do what I do, don't walk around in the city with drugs on you.
 
It's fairly well known that sniffer dogs are actively being used in the Greater Melbourne precinct to detect drug activity.

Another recent thread

This is the first time I've heard of them being used around train stations but in the last twelve months they've been active on Russell Street during the day and Kings Street on weekend evenings too.
 
does anyone know of the specific legalities surrounding sniffer dogs sniffing over everybody before they are admitted into a club (not a special event, is on every saturday night)?

You try and feed a police dog and watch what happens. Police are not stupid and the dogs are trained for idiots like this.
 
well thats a bummy i was at safeway last night and bought a box of smackos
 
^ why pollute these boards with your useless garbage, when you know there are people out there who are looking discuss an issue responsibly?
 
Australian laws are violating more and more of peoples rights, America the most crazy place on the planet can't even search you for anything other than weapons unless you agree to a search, of ur body, vehicle, or house or they have a personalised warrant.

How on earth are all of these aussie laws passing without any protest. It's our privacy and we need to protect it. I dont carry drugs anymore and i havent for many months now, yet i still get pulled up and searched outside a local brisbane valley club which is extremly embarrassing and a waste of my time. The AFP need to keep there grubby little hands to them selves and start being more effective looking for the Trafficers and not harrassing the general public trying to teach the users a lesson.:X
 
Yeah... this is stupid, the police shouldn't have the rights to violate a person's freedom like this. I mean, what's it going to be next? Surveillance cameras in my own toilet!

This makes it extremely hard for a person who has to rely off public transport to get around...

Just earlier on yesterday (12/05/06), during the evening around 5pm-6pm I'd say, there were some sniffer dogs hunting around the lobby area at Flinders St station. They caught some kid with what looked like weed, but I was alot more interested in what they were actually doing there and if it's going to become a routine thing. I've never seen them around there before, but maybe I've just been lucky, can't find any more info on the matter apart from eye witnessess, oh well...
 
its a fuking joke serious u need to be so so careful these days its fuked, going to the city is like going threw customs with an ass full of drugs

i have made a similiar thred in the past on this topic (that was locked) and evan updated it with info about people getting caught and what they where caught with then i see these threds start about a fuking dog walking round big deal i have more info on melb's cbd club scean then i care to type but whats the point of posting it when [edit: please keep it civil]

i think the idea about the "smackos" is to deter the dog, there trained to ignore scents like that, so there is the slight chance they would pass you.
Its really not worth it tho, think about it.. try explaining to the officer why your carrying round smackos?
 
easy... just hand the smacko's to the cop and tell him to be a good boy and not violate your personal freedom (plz dont actually try this, i'll feel bad)

"Hello Mr Policeman... you're a good policeman aren't you... would you like a smacko?" then when he thinx you're gonna try fight him pull out a smacko :D
