Ultram seizure?

The last time I had a benzodiazepine withdrawal seizure, I wasn't even aware that it happened, I would have only suspected vaguely had my roomate not gone and got a nurse( in rehab )

Yesterday I took 7 Ultram, the max recommened dose is 400mg and I had 350. I was pretty wired, and didn't get to sleep untill about 5 this morning.This morning I just woke up feeling really weird, really fucking sore, and had a large hematomo on my left thigh, like I busted my ass sometime during the night. But how in the hell would I have a seizure, fall out of bed, injure myself, and end up back in bed in the morning? The other symptom I have is moderate muscle weakness.

Does amnesia accompany seizures of this kind?

Any opinions?

Amnesia is a major component of a grand mal seizure and seizures are a major side effect of tramadol. This has been proven again and again. I belong to a number of boards and have watched over the past year as large numbers of people went from declaring the wonder of this drug to worrying about neurological side effects. My pharmacy sent back an ultram script in January because it bounced with my lexapro. . . the dangerous possibility of the mixture was (can you guess?)

BTW, 400mg is the maximum reccommended daily dosage. I'm pretty sure the max you are supposed to take at one go is much lower.


One seizure was enough for me (not from tramadol, it was back in 1991), but if you like ultram that much, I guess you will do as you want.

Seizure is a known issue with Tramadol.

According to rx.com:
Seizures have been reported in patients receiving tramadol within the recommended dosage range. Spontaneous post-marketing reports indicate that seizure risk is increased with doses of tramadol above the recommended range. use of tramadol increases the seizure risk in patients taking:

• Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI antidepressants or anoretics),

• Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), and other tricyclic compounds (e.g., cyclobenzaprine, promethazine, etc.), or

• Other opioids.

i disagree. ive done tramadol ONE time. i took 350mgs.

it made me sweat, and have seizures. gave me a very weird uncomfortable feeling.

get yourself a nice hefty dose of hydrocodone or oxycodone... there is a world of difference. thoes put tramadol to shame!!!!!!1

Remember, tramadol is an SSRI!

Tramadol is not an SSRI. It is a "centrally acting synthetic analgesic compound. . . (with) at least two complementary mechanisms appear(ing) applicable: binding of parent and M1 metabolite to the mu-opioid receptors and weak inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin." (PDR 2001)

SSRI is a term referring specifically to a class of anti-depressants whose primary action is the inhibition of reuptake of serotonin. These include flouxetine, sertralin. citalpram, escitalpram, and paroxetin.

Even if tramadol were an anti-depressant effecting major inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, it would not belong to the class known as SSRI's. It would belong to the class of mixed-reuptake inhibitors, such as venlefaxine (Effexor), which works through inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin.

Thus, if you really insist on calling tramadol an anti-depressant, make sure you have your terms straight. It is a weak mixed reuptake inhibitor, not an SSRI, nor a TCA, nor an MAOI. One of it's activities is the mild inhibition of the reuptake of two neurotransmitters. However, the amount of tramadol that must be administered for the inhibition activity to reach the same level as an actual approved anti-depressant medication is toxic.

And, no, just because 200mg of tramadol might make you feel "happy," does not make it an anti-depressant medication.

Sorry for the medical garble, but it's kind of a hobby (which is my mother's fault for going to medical school after I was old enough to read). Ultram is a synthetic analgesic that binds to mc-opioid receptors and produces a weak inhibition of reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin. Tramadol is WEAK! 150mg of Tramadol has been shown to be comparable to 100mg of propoxyphene with/APAP and 60mg of codeine with/APAP. A daily dose of 250mg has been shown to be comparable with 10mg of oxycodone for pain relief. IMO Ultram produces no pleasurable "buzz" and find codeine doses as low as 60mg to be superior than any dose of Tramadol.

I find 300mg of codeine comparable (recreationally) to 300mg of tramadol. The highs are pretty different though, and what makes tramadol desirable is that with not too much of a tolerance I can nod with doses as low as 300mg, while I dont ever remember nodding on codeine (taken doses up to 400mg, which is the max your liver can process at a time). However codeine still has something desirable about it that you just dont get from tramadol...

People saying "fuck that get oxy" probably dont get any effects from tramadol because they got such a high tolerance and are used to much stronger opiods. In that case, no shit you find tramadol worthless...
