Hi, I was wondering if Ultram ( tramadol ) would be a decent substitute for poppy tea? I'm one of the lucky people who actually gets a decent effect from Ultram, however I know that poppy tea is made up of a bunch of different alkaloids, and ultram is well ... ultram, any advice? I've been using the pod tea on and off for several months and every day for the last month, usually 2-3 times a day.

I also have a 4 mg a day script for klonopin but I've been on it for 3 years+ so it really doesn't affect me anymore, maybe I could tell my psych I'm having breakthrough anxiety and get a handful of xanax and space em out ...

Is Ultram really an opiod? I've often wondered about that? I know it has some effect similar to other painkillers I've taken but it also seems to have a mild stimulant effect as well.

I read somewhere that it affects sertonin, norepinephrine ( probably where the "speedy" effect comes from ), and also has a weak affinity for MU receptors, kinda like codiene.

I would not use any opiates/opioids to try to get clean. Unless we're talking going on MMT or suboxone treatment. If you don't have access to these treatments or drugs, i would NOT use any other opioids or opiates at all. They will just prolong the w/d and make it worse in the long run. Do you want to be sick once, and get it over with. Or do you want to be sick a lot, but have temporary relief at times.
I've been an addict for four years, I'm not new to getting clean. I just kicked a two bundle a day habit (20 bags, or 2 grams, however you want to look at it ). It fucking SUCKED. Suboxone didnt even hold me at any dose, I had to use methadone. But i also tried using other opioids, awesome temporary relief, but made it worse. If your habit is light though, i could see someone using SMALL doses of codiene or ultram just to relieve the sickness, or to taper with.

Try getting some methadone or suboxone, or at LEAST some benzos to help you with sleep, and to ease the w/d.

It sounds like this persons habit is no where near as bad as yours Purelife, methadone would probably be a bit extreme--although I have heard some horror stories involving pod-tea and I've never tried it, so I'm not in any position to judge.

I would try a taper with ultram/codeine and if that doesn't work, then perhaps bupe would be your best option.

Tramadol (in two studies) compared favorably to buprenorphine, for WD maint. Even on this board, people are reporting as good luck (or better) with the cheaper tramadol (over buprenorphine). In general, I think theres merit to your advice, but this is a specific exception.

These Ultrams are working pretty good for my WD, I havent drank any pod tea in 3 days and haven't felt any withdrawals yet. I actually catch a little buzz off the ultrams, but they do have some crappy side effects at the doses I'm taking ( about a gram per day ), like sweating, ringing in the ears, chest tightness,etc. Anyone know what causes the side effects of Ultram?

Oh and I dont recommend anyone take a gram of ultram a day as it can cause seizures, Im only taking that much to avoid shitty withdrawals from morphine and I also have a script for klonopin which lowers the seizure risk.

It would not surprise me if you were feeling the effects of Serotonin Syndrome.

Be careful. Do some reading on SS...

ultram is used off label for narcotic addiction one second and ill post up the info

Off-label and investigational uses

* diabetic neuropathy[6][7]
* postherpetic neuralgia[8][9]
* fibromyalgia[10]
* restless legs syndrome[11]
* opiate withdrawal management[12][13]
* migraine headache[14]
* obsessive-compulsive disorder[15]
* premature ejaculation[16]
honestly any opiate will help with premature ejaculation or none at all.

it is a fully synthetic opioid and it is a prodrug few know this, and pretty much i can get high (sometimes) with a big ass opiate tolerance.

Check the OP's symptoms after using 1+grams a day Tramadol.

Not normal Tramadol symptoms...

I know a lot of people take 1+grams a day, but the fact is that if you took 1+grams of venlafaxine, you could expect SS or seizure, why not expect it from Tramadol? (Because it is marketed differently?)

Be safe.

^^ 100% aree. I have had seretonin sicknes (2steps short of syndrome – which if actually the real thing would usually hospitalise you). I was WD from a codeine habit, was already on 335mg Venlafaxine XR per day, and ended up averaging 1.5-2.5g aq day of tramadol. I ended up feeling worse than normal codeine WD and because I was young and stupid though the crappy feeling was WDs, so kept on upping my tramadol intake making things worse – be careful!
Bear in mind tramadol WDs at high levels of abuse are no cake-walk (never WD PPT so can’t compare, but much worse than say codeine WD)
Stay safe

It is a cool guide, I remember reading that some years ago when Phreez was still a regular here. I never tried to Imodium thing, does it really help? Oh and poppy pod withdrawal is comparable imo to withdrawing from a mild heroin habit, the main alkaloid in PPT is morphine.

I read somewhere that each pod can contain anywhere from 20-80 mg of morphine and I was dosing 10 pods about 3-4 times a day. Last time I went through PPT withdrawal I didn't have anything to help me through it and it was hell. Ultram may not be all that great for getting high but to me its a godsend for opiates withdrawals.
