It is not just law-abiding British society that is being polarised by the faltering economy. A huge gap is also opening up in the country's illicit drugs market, as cash-strapped users switch to generic stimulants while wealthier buyers in search of a high opt for "premium" products.

A paper to be published in the online edition of Drugs and Alcohol Today has found that young adults are turning to unidentified white powders following the ban on mephedrone, the former "legal high", and the decline in the purity of popular street drugs such as cocaine.

Dr Karenza Moore, who helped conduct the study, said its findings had important implications for those tackling the UK's drugs problem. "Street mephedrone, 'bubble' and generic pills and powders signals the reappearance of drugs with predominately stimulant effects that carry little of the 'celebrity culture' kudos of powder cocaine or premium quality MDMA," Moore said. "We could be witnessing the renaissance of cheap and cheerful stimulants appropriate to our age of austerity".

People aren't doing these shitty drugs because of the price. They're doing it because it's so fucking hard tofind high quality MDMA. And pretty much impossible to find good coke.

So well done parliment, the drugs crackdown is working, your slowly taking away the drugs with decades of research behind them and forcing the (mostly retarded) british public onto new, dangerous untested chemicals. Jolly good show!
 
Illegality hardly affects the general populace's drug-seeking behavior. Prohibition just made the use of alcohol more dangerous, as if Alcohol isn't dangerous enough already.

The same thing is happening here, except MDMA is perfectly safe if used responsibly.

speed is obscenely cheap in the UK (as in i've heard grams can go for less than 10 pounds online)from whtat i've heard anyway, why's that not a cheap and cheerful stim? crack cocaine is cheap isnt it? why's that not cheap and cheerful?
cheap and cheerful isn't the label a strong stimulant drug like mephedrone should be given by the media anyway...
and if MDMA is hard to get, bad quality and or expensive then people are gonna seek alternatives, same with cocaine
if the cocaine si terrible, hard to get and expensive, and the speed is just meh racemic amphetamine is just a nasty paste cut to all hell and with 10% or lower amphetamine in it and the rest cuts then kids will do stim RCs.
Methamphetamine for Britain! It would get kids off mephedrone i bet...or even if their speed was decent/snortable in small bumps/not hideously impure and disgusting. Or just hand out RX amphetamines more, watch those replace these guaranteed

hell i tried what i was told was mephedrone, meh.
not as good as MDMA, why bother, and a shit plain regular stimulant (as in not empathogen, stim as in like coke or speed) IMO compared to methamph/dextroamphetamine
 
It's weird, all the hardcore crackheads I've ever met agreed, that the best product, even with its premium price, is more economical than cheaper but inferior product.

I don't know about that, in the south of the UK quality MDMA powder has been everywhere you look recently!

I wouldn't know about coke though.
 
I haven't had any difficulty procuring seriously good MDMA in the past year. I've found some seriously shit MDMA as well, but my point is the bloody stuff's everywhere down south!

Theres a 2 tier market for cocaine aswell, pay £30 and youll get some really poor quality cut shit, pay double that and youll get some real quality stuff, tis just about common sense. Also people saying mephedrone is just a poor quality stim youve probally never tried the 99.8% pure quality crystals from china that took over the WHOLE of the UK for a long time.
