Drug users across Derbyshire are being warned about the dangers of ‘recreational’ substances after many people have died or been hospitalised.

Seizures of drugs throughout Derbyshire have shown that what a person thinks they have bought is often not the drug that has been sold to them.

Toxicology tests have shown that PMA paramethoxymethyamphetamine – which is chemically similar to the lethal and highly-addictive narcotic ‘crystal meth’ – has been a significant factor in these deaths, although inquests have not yet been held.

PMA is often being sold as Ecstasy but it is much stronger and far more toxic. Locally it has also been sold as amphetamine powder. PMA has been referred to as ‘pink ecstasy’, ‘Dr Death’ or ‘Pink McDonalds’.

PMA has also been linked to deaths throughout Europe as well as in other parts of the UK.

Mick Burrows, Derbyshire County Council’s senior public health commissioning manager, said: “It takes time for PMA to work which sometimes leads users to re-dose or take other drugs on top. Death can occur when a user believes they are consuming recreational doses of MDMA, when they are, in fact, consuming a lethal dose of another substance with similar effects.

“PMA is of particular concern because it can quickly reach toxic levels on its own but if combined with other drugs, like MDMA, it can trigger fatal central nervous system responses. Users may become really hot, experience seizures, fast heartbeat, shock, and go into kidney failure.

“In overdose, time is precious and so it is vital that an ambulance is called straight away and if PMA is even suspected this information should be given to the crew. The police will not attend any incident where a person has collapsed after taking drugs.”

The only reason they would say its chemically similar to methamphetamine is to scare people into thinking taking PMA will make them into meth heads, since its more similar to regular old amphetamine. Good scare tactics. Anyway, back to generic legalisation chatter, if MDMA was legal nobody would be buying PMA pills and fucking dying. How do others not see logic?

You fucktards, as soon as I read the first sentence it was already clear. Legalise drugs you fuckshits. Then people will not buy a fucking poison instead of the drug motherfuckers. They see this, they just ignore it, fucktards. Cartels are chopping ppls heads off and leaving them on the side of the roads in Mexico purely because drugs area illegal and worth a bullshit pretty penny. Fuckyouall

i work for my local DSP and care co ordination team CRI i wonder if this is why a significant number of our amphetamine clients have been displaying much more chaotic behaviour, mental health problems and several incidents of self harm in the last couple of months

all in all it's a good thing to warn people about PMA being around and how toxic it is. It seems to hit everywhere, took out a bunch of people in Canada last year and probably many more to come. It's not like they can make MDMA legal overnight and have it distributed at your local store so these warnings are helpful if nothing else.

"Hmm so we made real Molly illegal and have heavy busts on it, now they're making something worse. Well lets just scare people so we can make stricter laws. That should work"

Government logic ftw

shit i read MPA not PMA at first thought Christ that's stuff not started killing people off as well . sort of off topic but just to ask any one who has done it , do you just get this rush that keeps going and going like its not going to stop then you end up forgetting your rushing for awhile then remember ? if so that's what i got the other week really nice but more like an lsd rush to speed one
