Imagine the severity of the punishment handed down to someone who went into a supermarket and laced the milk with rat poison.
On that basis, you can’t argue with the proposals announced this week: to make a four-and-a-half year prison sentence mandatory for anyone selling Class A drugs. Which is, in effect, the same as giving someone rat poison.

I speak with some feeling because heroin killed my son Freddy. He was found last May, in a London flat, dead of an overdose at the age of 18. It was a process that began when he was 13 and started taking mephedrone. There is a terrible complacency among parents about drug-taking. The fact is, if you’ve got teenage children, it is inevitable they have taken drugs.

So when Richard Branson says drugs should be de-criminalised, I can’t agree. Yes, you might free up the police, the price of drugs might come down, and you might diminish the cachet of doing something illegal, but you won’t stop people with addictive personalities, and others, too, coming to harm.
That’s what worries me about lighter sentences. What Freddy had was an illness. What drug pedlars do is a crime.

"It's heroin's fault that my son is dead, you know, because I know it was mostly my fault my son is dead. As a result, I'm going to make sure I ruin the lives of as many people as possible until I myself die. Also, rat poison and a non-toxic substance are equally as toxic."

using heroin to poison rats is a waste IMHO. I actually don't kill the little fuckers because arsenic-type poisoning is cruel and the City of Fort Lauderdale has rules against discharging a shotgun. There are a shitload of rats around here though. What I did was purchase a squirrel cage. I bait the cage and catch them in my kitchen, then I drive them to affluent neighborhoods and release them. This is in line with Fick's first law of diffusion:

Heroin or any other opiate being compared to rat poison is like saying if you pick up a gun, your more than likely to kill someone..........I dont see this guy out there protesting guns because they have been used in millions of murders.

If this guys son got cancer from cigarettes, would he be out there protesting tobacco companies? If his son died of alcohol poisoning, would he be calling alcohol rat poison?

13? wtf. That dad speaks alot of shit. I know lots of teens who dont take drugs at 17 and 18. They are straight as. They train, study, do lots of other things. Maybe the dad or parents should have been looking out for their 13 yr old a bit more and teaching him good values. But the dad was an alcoholic. Still he blames the drugs?

But is there really much chance of a 13 year old buying mephedrone from the internet back in 2006?

Didn't realise that poisoning something so people unknowingly fell ill, and someone willingy buying heroin, could be so similair

Am I the only person who finds this somewhat ironic?

what parents don?€™t realise is that the drugs sold today are much more dangerous than those of 30 years ago. They are chemical-based, and often lethal.

IDIOT!!! Drugs in the Media makes me so angry, ugh.

lmao

This story is the same one that has been in papers for half a century or more.
They find some well-meaning but uneducated parent whose child has died / overdosed, and they get the emotional impact,
despite the fact that they are using arguments that have been discredited based on scientific analysis, and ignoring some logical points (like the alcoholic/ blames drugs thing) that would destroy their argument.
Pure propaganda.

And what's with the title? He wants to punish the drug for the death of the boy?
That is so twisted and surreal that it almost makes sense. When I am on many, many hits of acid. And somewhat drunk. And depressed.
