UK - Teenagers who take Ecstasy 70% more at risk from depression

Im going to be quite truthful with my opinion here.
But MDMA / Ecstasy is quite a harmful chemical really. It is a potent serotonin releasing chemical and our brains/bodies are not designed to replenish serotonin quickly, because in normal every day life, peoples brains dont tend too release much of it.

If legislation was to ever happen, i wouldnt like to see ecstasy being available at clubs. I would be very pleased to see it being accessed to by therapists and other medically deserving people (think ptsd) legally though. (In extremely low frequency doseage)

Our bodies aren't designed to process fats, oils, and refined sugars easily or frequently either. They aren't healthy and a lifetime of using them in excess can and does kill a great number of people. Why doesn't the same logic you are applying to MDMA apply to everything unhealthy?

Better yet, why not do the reverse and apply the "moderation is key" attitude that you probably apply to everything else to MDMA?

I'll never regret trying MDMA. Out of all the crap I've experimented with, which is pretty much everything other than LSD - It's the only one that I feel has changed my life for the better. I was an antisocial, self-conscious, anxious, depressed trainwreck who has been on several different antidepressants, neuroleptics and antianxiety Rx meds for years and all it took was one dose of MDMA for me to permanently change the way I viewed myself, others and how precious and beautiful life can be. Yes, there were times when I would try to redose the next day, or the next week. I quickly found out how stupid that was. But I digress - I don't care if it's proven to be neurotoxic. Mdma completes me even if I only take it a few times a year.

Yes, depressed people use MDMA.

But the drug also releases your serotonin, and you E tards dont let it regenerate which leads to your brain having to do without it. Low amounts of serotonin is directly related to depression, and if you think you can use MDMA every week without doing damage to your brain (specifically, the part that controls emotions..) then you obviously dont know what you're talking about.

Or maybe not… http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/514578-Serotonin-cell-discoveries-mean-rethink-of-depression

^ Low serotonin by itself is not the cause, but damage to the axons and the overall balance of the brain is NOT a good thing.

There are large patches in brains of ecstasy abusers that have limited blood flow to them (this is where the "holes in the brain" thing comes from) and people are more likely to show signs of "manic depression" instead

Things like mood swings, depersonalization, anxiety, drop in libido, lack of motivation, self loathing and worse, are all extremely common side effects of MDMA

I'd take anything George Ricaurte has to say about MDMA with a very large grain of salt. He's the same genius who claimed that a single recreational dosage of MDMA could cause Parkinson's Disease, then completely retracted his "findings" because - according to him - his lab somehow ended up using methamphetamine instead of MDMA due to a labeling error by his chemical supply company. That company responded that there was no labeling error on their end and I tend to believe them considering MDMA and methamphetamine are CI/CII substances.

As a long time etard myself - I do tend to agree with the notion that MDMA usage can cause some neurotoxic damage due to dopamine either binding to serotonergic nerve endings or being uptaken via a sertonergic transporter (either combo resulting in neurotoxicity). However, in terms of a neurotoxicity rating scale between 1 to 10 - in my opinion, there are worse (and much worse) recreational and Rx psychotropic drugs out there (one of them being legal).

Are these acute or chronic side-effects?

On a personal level, I haven't experienced any of them - quite the reverse in fact :) (As others have mentioned…)

Anything that makes a grown man cry watching a disney film following a 2 day MDMA binge cant be good ey.
