A shocking picture of alcohol and drug taking amongst Sussex children has been revealed in a new report.

In Brighton and Hove, 13% of children and young people reported using drugs. The national average is 4%. A total of 9% of the city’s young people smoke compared to a national average of 4%. And there were 37 hospital admissions for 15-24 year olds due to substance misuse, at a rate of 85.6 per 100,000 of the population. The national average is 63.5 per 100,000 people. Health and council bosses say they are taking the results extremely seriously.

^ MDMA capital maybe not...Gay capital definately. I Don't smoke sausage myself but those guys know how to have a good night.

no surprise there, Brighton is the MDMA capital of the UK (I know, I live near there ;) ) and has an alternative culture compared to the rest of the UK and that culture revolves around drug use. I love Brighton personally always a good night out :P

really? bringing up the gay thing? i have never even noticed anything, not that it even matters. except i once got my bum squeezed by a dude, but i took it as a compliment. MDMA i've found there half the price of what i was on in london, but talking around this does seem i getting a pretty schweeet deal. i've said before tho, everyone seems to be sniffin meph and not mdma. hey ho.

i wonder if there are any reasons for this beyond being a liberal city, on the coast, with a big nightlife scene, relatively close to london. that's quite a few reasons tbf.

So drug use among young people is around 3.25 times higher than the national average, while related hospital admissions are only 1.34 times higher? Are they shocked at how safely these people are using drugs?
