A computer technician died after taking lethal doses of a legal morphine-like drug he had bought freely over the internet.

Jason Nock, 41, from Birmingham, had almost five times the usual fatal quantity of synthetic drug AH-7921 in his system when his body was discovered by partner Lea Maninang at their home in Cradley, Heath.

The tragedy has led shocked Black Country coroner Robin Balmain to vow to approach the Home Office asking whether the substance should be outlawed, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Miss Maninang, who had a daughter, Jemima, now aged one, with Mr Nock, told an inquest at Dudley Coroner's Court: “He ordered it from the internet and they delivered it. I just found out about him taking these drugs when I moved in with him [in 2012].

“Just lately before he died he was saying it helped with his sleeping.”

She revealed that Mr Nock, her partner of seven years, had struggled with insomnia, but added he was not addicted to the drug.

“Sometimes he took it, sometimes he didn’t,” Miss Maninang told the court.

Mr Nock was pronounced dead at Russells Hall Hospital on August 17 last year.

Dr Sixto Batitang, consultant pathologist at the hospital said an overdose of the drug, not presently controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act, had killed Mr Nock. Tests showed he had 4.46mg per litre of blood in his system, almost five times more than the usual fatal dose of between 0.81 and 0.99mg.

Dr Batitang said AH7921 was similar to morphine in its action and potency. “The possibility of toxicity from this drug is really very high,” he added.

Concluding that death was accidental, Mr Balmain said: “This is tragic. It seems to me the problem with drugs that are not prescribed by a doctor and obtained through a pharmacist is that you don’t know what they are and, perhaps more importantly, you don’t know how many to take and how regularly to take them before problems occur.

“I also propose to write to the Home Office about this case. I’m aware that obtaining drugs other than via prescription is very easy these days.

"It’s possible to obtain all sorts of substances via the internet. Even though it’s a big problem, I think it’s necessary that people like me do draw to the attention of the Home Office what the problems are, to see if anything can be done. Consideration might be given to making it illegal which it isn’t at the moment.”

This is what happens when you use risky research chemicals with little known about them.

They just want to make more illegal but that's what get people here in the first place.
If drugs were legal there would be no need for extremely potent rcs.

Unfortunate this happened but your the problem here girl, along with out government who doesn't care about these deaths and actually aids them by creating a massive black market.

80% poteny of morphine mean its less potent?

Must have takin a massive dose, doubting a scale was involved in his dosing.

80% poteny of morphine mean its less potent?
Erm... yeah, it means it's 80% as potent. 8/10 as strong. 4/5. Less potent.
If drugs were legal there would be no need for extremely potent rcs.
It's less potent than heroin, morphine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, in fact almost every opioid known to man apart from perhaps codeine/DHC, tramadol, pethidine and a handful of others.
This is what happens when you use risky research chemicals with little known about them.
Isn't this actually a drug that was developed decades ago by a pharma firm and is relatively well studied? And wasn't the cause of death here opioid toxicity, known to man since before the dawn of Western civilisation?
Unfortunate this happened but your the problem here girl
Who is this girl? The 41-year-old male victim? I don't grasp what you mean.

Just callin me out. Lol

Well it is a reaserch chem he prolly got it from an online chemist.

I posted the 80% thing when I edited my post why you flamming me?

The extremely potent rc comment was a reference to the many deaths due to fent anologues 25 nbmoes mdma mimics, catch my drift?

This drug is still far less dangerous than many other RCs, even if it's an opioid. As long as people know what they are doing, they shouldn't die. Unfortunately some people just don't, or don't care.

"Dr Sixto Batitang, consultant pathologist at the hospital said an overdose of the drug, not presently controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act, had killed Mr Nock. If you dose 5x LD50 what do you think is gonna happen really? -_-

At least he didn't cut off his penis. That was pretty distasteful.

It's terrible that someone overdosed on a RC. If recreational drugs were legal, there would be no need for him to dose a huge amount of a largely unknown and from all reports, inferior opiod.

Just callin me out. Lol
Well, like, yeah, I hate to get on your case, but I didn't agree with the things you were saying. No beef.

Isn't this moving the goalposts a bit? When you say it's a risky RC, and say little is known about it, and I say, actually, it's probably one of the better studied drugs on the grey market, having been through human trials, you say "well it is an RC". I didn't dispute that. While we're on the subject though, being sold by RC vendors doesn't make something an RC, I can get sildenafil (Viagra) and etizolam, drugs sold as medicines, legally, from some vendors.

OK, no, I didn't get your drift, it seems a bit of a non sequitur from this thread, about an RC that isn't extremely potent at all, but yeah, whatever.

Yeah, man, I did read it, and the person who said that wasn't his wifey, it was the male coronor, Robin Balmain:
Concluding that death was accidental, Mr Balmain said... “I also propose to write to the Home Office about this case. I’m aware that obtaining drugs other than via prescription is very easy these days.

I'm not trying to flame you. I just responded to your post, I thought the things you were saying were a bit dubious. Nothing personal.

The article says this happened last August. Maybe they just happened to only get wind of it now, maybe there's some more co-ordinated, cynical reason for publishing now. This tin-foil hat will keep me safe.

Well, while we are in the picking on "Therappergonebad" mode, I will just point out that the quote is NOT from the girlfriend Lea, but quoted by the doctor, Dr. Balmain.

"Concluding that death was accidental, Mr Balmain said: “This is tragic.
