TRAGIC teenager Alex Herriot’s death at last month’s Rockness festival was the latest in a long line of fatalities linked to lethal designer drugs. The drugs, known as “legal highs”, are the latest craze among teenage clubbers and festival-goers and, worryingly, are available to buy in shops or on the internet. The designer drugs, such as Benzo Fury, which is thought to have killed 19-year-old Alex, are modified versions of illegal substances that manage to bypass drug laws. But legal highs can be as deadly as Class A drugs such as cocaine or heroin. Here, in a need-to-know guide for parents, we take a look at the “legal” designer drugs that are ruining young lives.

5-IT
This drug, dubbed He-Man, has flooded the market. It mimics a powerful tranquilliser called methoxetamine (Mexxy) but has been altered slightly to make it lawful. He-Man costs [no prices] for two 500mg sachets.

Why do they insist on telling parents the wrong thing? I think the general attitude of "drugs are bad" is pretty well known, and who honestly thinks that the legality of something is reflective of its danger? Doesn't this lend credence to the idea that banning drugs is doing WAY WAY more harm than good for pretty much all of society? What a shit article.

Am I just out of touch because of how much time I spend hanging out on drug geek sites, or is that article seriously 'I didn't even bother to use wikipedia for research' lazy and stupid?

I sometimes wonder if articles like this about drugs are what they plow out in 20 minutes when it's Friday and the low rank journalists (and I'm being generous by using that term) can't be assed and just want to knock off early and get trashed.

New legal high available worldwide: ethyl alcohol (ethanol) is the craze at teen parties, universities, clubs, bars, and other social events. These people are "super dosing" as they call it, in search of a strong intoxicating high. Parents should be cautioned as last week a 17 year old male was killed in a car accident in which blood test results confirmed he had been using ethyl alcohol. Recently a teen was admitted to the hospital after she overdosed on ethyl alcohol. She was found unconscious in the bathroom, half naked, with vomit all over the floor. The teen was released from the hospital the following morning and is reported to have made a full recovery. Ethyl alcohol is a cheap affordable drug and very potent coming in various brand names such as "Jack Daniels", "Patron", " Grey Goose", "Captain Morgan", "Southern Comfort" and many more names that sound inviting, interesting, or have depictions of "cool characters" on the container.

Can I be a journalist now?

Lol yeah I've always thought someone should do a satirical take off of a PSA where they describe a new deadly drug that sounds just like alcohol. Would probably go over a few heads, but it'd still be hilarious :D

Then my next calling is to take down alcohol companies.... by smoking weed with their leaders while being wired and setting them all up =D

Alcohol is one of the worst drugs out there, almost certainly worse than any of the "legal highs". This of course makes me think that any impending bans aren't about peoples safety and something else is at play here.

I just completely and shamelessly stole that to put on my Facebook, but I'll be happy to pass on credit to "that guy on a forum I read" if anyone asks. :P

I agree with most of your statement but saying alcohol is worse then un-studied chemicals is wrong. Atleast alcohol has been around for thousands of years and most people know what they are gettin theirselfs into when they drink it. With these very new RCs most people dont have a clue what they are getting into. If the media would quit writing these scare tactic stories maybe the whole legal high thing would die off, fat chance of that tho. Or maybe write a storie explaining how much to take and what it does, besides saying they mimics the effects of every illegal drug....hmmmmm i wonder what makes people want to try them.....i fucking wonder....
