The drug ketamine should be upgraded from a Class C drug to Class B, government advisers are to recommend. The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs is set to make the recommendation after new evidence revealed the damage ketamine can have on the bladder. Under the new classification, illegal possession of ketamine could lead to a five-year jail sentence. Ketamine is an anaesthetic used for operations on humans and animals that has become a popular recreational drug. Home Office figures released in the summer showed that in the past year about 120,000 people aged 16-59 in England and Wales took ketamine, which is best known by the street names K, Special K and Vitamin K.

'Bladders removed'

Home Secretary Theresa May asked the Council to review the evidence on ketamine last year amid increased concern about its popularity and potential harm the drug can cause. It has gathered new evidence suggesting some people are taking large amounts of ketamine every day, risking severe damage to their bladders. In the most serious cases users have had to undergo surgery to have their bladders removed.

An upgrade from Class C to Class B means those found in possession of the drug would face up to five years in prison, up from two, and those caught supplying it up to 14 years prison or an unlimited fine. The Council is also expected to recommend that ministers consider tighter controls on the way the drug is stored by pharmacies and hospitals. First reports of ketamine being used as a recreational drug emerged soon after its release on to the market in 1965. It gained popularity in the UK nightclub scene in the early 1990s as people bought it in the mistaken belief that it was ecstasy.

Ketamine is dose-specific, so the amount taken determines the level of effect. It comes in various forms, most commonly as a powder, but also as a liquid and a tablet. At low doses the user may feel euphoric, experience waves of energy, and possibly synaesthesia - sensations such as seeing sounds or hearing colours. However, some evidence suggests that use of the drug has an effect on memory, which persists for longer than three days after use, and becomes worse for regular users of the drug.

I was never really into Ketamine, but I'm curious how there didn't seem to be any cases of bladder damage before it was made class-C in 2006. So it has only become harmful since being banned?

ketamine bladder damage has been known about for quite some time now and is seen even in clinical settings, so i doubt it

The amount that has to be used to destroy your bladder is incredible. These people literally wake up in the middle of the night to redose. The risk is minimal.

Yea seems like youd have to be using tons of ketamine to have bladder problems like that. My ROA of dope weed and some k would be the tits right now lol

its can be minimal use for some and massive use for others but having a bladder thats fucked and needing medical help is not very sexy for a young dude or gal

The problem comes that if someone is addicted to it them the amounts they use are incredible. I've frequently seen people go through many, many grams in a night and do so daily. That isn't to say that making it class B will change anything, it will just become more expensive and increase crime.

This is hilarious, as even the US and also my country is using ketamine more and more for chronic pain, often in those cream concoctions with 5-6 meds in them that renders the K pretty much unabusable (wouldn't want to take a lot of ketamine, lyrics and amytriptiline at once for example). This one time my old friend had Ketamine + lidocaine only cream to take over his ungodly amounts of Hydromorph Contins (30mg x6 day) and I ate a little bit of it and rubbed some on my sore left facial nerves. Works like a charm.

But there is even pills for Ketamine, 10mg ones, and 25mg I think. They weren't available until maybe 5 years ago. It's an additional tool in the chronic pain doctor's arsenal. Shows how backwards the UK is going...

Never have had the chance to indulge on this beautiful substance.

Only time I was offered it turned out to be mxe kid had an oz of it.

To be honest the bladder damage thing sounds pretty scary to me.

They should legalize it so peole don't have to get sketchy product that probably does more damage do to shady cuts.

Punish the users of drugs and they will stop using drugs, right? S.M.H..

It could have been the lidocaine that was doing the pain relief and not the ketamine, and a doctor prescribing oral ketamine, that's just useless

No, ketamine is increasingly used in ointments, never without ketamine. I did feel pain relief from my always on the edge trigeminal nerve just by rubbing some where it hurts, it does work since those special compound pharmacy creams are made to go through the skin, they have something similar, if not, DMSO in them. It is an increasingly used method for people who have been on opiates in large doses since decades due to well, the 57 year old I know has degenerative arthritis in both his shoulders and other crap in his back, he had maybe 30 injections of cortisone in there, so much that the then opiate-fearing doctor (all those were almost given only before he was allowed real painkillers) caused him more problems. Cortisone infiltrations are very overrated.

25mg pills of ketamine not only helped for the pain in my left foot and toes better than anything else in existence, it made it so I didn't have to use as much opiates, which is ALWAYS a plus. Try to read more about ketamine's wonders in non-typical cases/really broken people who are on opiates since 20 years and need something different along with them eventually.
The guy takes 6 30mg Hydromorph-Contins a day, the "correct way", eaten, 4x8mg dilaudid for breakthrough pain, even has some methadone 1mg pills (lol) to take 4 times a day, now that is bizarre, I though the 1mg Metadol brand pills were reserved for babies/children with cancer. 5-10 and 25mg ones are something else...maybe his pain doctor is trying to reduce his HM intake. In any case small doses of ketamine like this should be given like atarax is given with opioids, so the dosage of opioids can be reduced. It's not this kind of dosage, I haven't seen the studies, but I'm sure it's another case people/rats taking/being given very large doses over time. Only the most hardcore kid of the k-hole could be at risk of bladder cancer directly from K. How many of these people had pre-exisiting conditions ? How many smoked tobacco ? (a surprising thing for a lot of people is that it can indeed cause bladder cancer).

Was the pain relief from the pills in your foot as effective as the relief the ointment gave on the nerve? When you took the pill, did it also relieve pain the foot? And did you ever put some of the ointment on your foot? Did you experience any disassociation from either types of ketamine?
I did not know ketamine was prescribed regularly anywhere, I thought it was only used in some surgeries on children, and maybe being considering for some cases of depression.
Wouldn't injectable hydromorphone be more suitable for him, so he wouldn't have to take both contins and dilaudid, maybe oxymorphone
And all those cortisone injections are worse than opioids, poor guy needs a better doctor
And you are right about bladder infections and ketamine
I do not know much about ketamine addiction and withdrawal from it, whether it is as painful as alcohol/gaba withdrawal, whether it requires very long-term treatment like opioid dependency, but if ketamine addiction is similar to either in that you need another medication to ease withdrawal, then I wonder if any such drug exists, a drug that would be analogous to methadone/buprenorphine for opioids or phenibut/baclofen for alcohol/gaba

Oxymorphone isnt available here, HM Contins justify it somehow.

As for how the cream worked, when it was a 2 compound only cream of ketamine and lidocaine, i ate a little and I did get a little high, I got in a great mood. The time I rubbed my damage trigeminal nerve with another of his cream with lyrica, lidocaine, amytryptiline, meloxicam and ketamine I got some of the best non-narcotic pain killing of my life. All of those eaten in the doses I rubbed wouldn't have done much. if you crush and snort 6-7 of the 25mg pills or even just eat above 100mg you are bound to feel it. I didn't get ketamine in pill form or in those special creams from him that often, maybe a couple months last summer.

The cortisone injections were done from the 80's to now, he has seen better doctors since then. What works best for him is the HM Contin 30mg x6 a day and Dilaudid. He was switched not long ago to Kadians 130mg x2 a day and 5mg methadone a day and he doesn't feel like himself, I did indeed notice a change in mood and behaviour, he never felt alright, while when he was on HMC + Dilaudid + Cesamet + ketamine pills + cream is when I saw him feel totally normal for 2 years certainly. Then he was referred to a pain doctor who, to me, changed him to more ideal XR medication in Kadians 130mg as HMC 30mg (I prefer morphine to hydromorphone, if i have to eat large quantities anyway, if IV'd...duh), the methadone 5mg instead of the 52mg of dilaudid...not sure what the doc is aiming for other than maybe reduce any enjoyment from the morphine. Man I loved when he had cesamet hahah, taking 3-4mg of that stuff was like eating really damn potent brownies. Although it is not thc, it is the only synth cannabinoid I recommend.

As for IV stuff, they never ever leave people at home with IV'able opiates unless they are people with cancer who will die in 2 months around here. Only other time I saw a friend with a catheter in his wrist was for injecting antibiotics and benadryl in himself every 12 hours for a nasty infection I never asked where it came from..lol. Had to carry that for 2-3 weeks.

I think it could be possible, I know a girl who works in a small mom & pop pharmacy but she says the only ampoules they have in the back is morphine and codeine (for IM).

Ugggghhhh been there.
It's how I am if I have ketamine on me but if I don't then I can easily go a couple weeks without buying any.
However more jail time is definitely not gonna make me want to use ketamine any less, fucking stupid system

Enlightening, thank you for your response
