A man died after taking a new legal high and drinking alcohol on a night out in Jersey, an inquest has heard. Matthew Raymond Wing died in March after taking "Benzo Fury" on a night out with friends. Since Mr Wing's death, the drug, otherwise known as Snowballs or Herbal Ecstasy, has been made illegal.
The inquest heard Mr Wing took at least one tablet of Benzo Fury and drank large amounts of alcohol while out on Saturday 10 March. The officer in charge of the investigation into Mr Wing's death, Det Const Thomas Haydn said Mr Wing had been out with friends.
He said they went to several pubs and clubs and ended up at a party in the early hours of Sunday morning, where Mr Wing's condition deteriorated. Mr Haydn said: "He was sweating and eventually, after a shower, went mad or freaked out, screaming in pain and saying 'get this out of me' and throwing himself around." He ended up at a friend's house, where he was described as being "possessed", and the ambulance was eventually called, Mr Haydn said.
Mr Wing died later in hospital.
