Home Secretary Theresa May has revealed she has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes but insists it will not affect her political career. The condition means her body does not produce insulin and she must now inject herself with the hormone at least twice a day for the rest of her life. She told the Mail on Sunday that the diagnosis "was a real shock" and had taken a while to come to terms with. But it was a case of "head down and getting on with it", Mrs May added

Couldn't help wondering if this is some kind of karmic return for her drug policy...
 
I don't think this really belongs on this forum. Insulin is not a recreational drug.

I feel the same way about the threads on antibiotics and NSAIDs that appear here every once in a while.

But how does someone develop type 1 diabetes at 56 years old? I've only ever heard of kids developing type 1 diabetes.
 
Home Secretary Theresa May is responsible for banning MXE, 6APB, Khat and various other previously legal highs. She is one of the most prolific prohibitionists. It's more "who" than "what".
 
Isn't type 2 diabetes the one that people develop later in life?

Either way, glucose intolerance can develop especially if they're aided by old(er) age, poor diet, stress, etc. Doesn't surprise me that this happened.
