A SPECIAL police squad has seen more than £350,000 in hard drugs, illegal weapons and drug dealers’ assets wiped from the town’s streets.
Swindon police’s Drug Enforcement Team has been on the frontline in the fight against illegal drugs in the town since it was formed in August 2009.
In just under two years the five-strong team has executed more than 75 warrants and arrested more than 150 people.
Seizures of Class A drugs, such as crack cocaine and heroin, have totalled a combined value of more than £350,000, while weapons including a machete, baseball bats and a one million-volt stun gun have all been confiscated in this year alone.
Sergeant Scott Hargreave, of the drugs squad, said drugs would always be an issue but much of the success was as a result of strong links with the community.
Sgt Hargreave said the courts were the key in supporting the team’s work.
He said: “One of the good things is how seriously the courts are still taking it. They take a serious stance and that really supports us.”

Hmmmf, Swindon says...

Why not lace the seized drugs with cyanide, ricin, or anthrax and then sell it back on the streets, the money raised being used to help cover the cost of cleaning up the result. If the junkies knew they had a 50/50 chance of dying a horrible death, they might not be so inclined to smoke, sniff or shoot themselves full of the muck (and subsequently less inclined to commit the crimes associated with drug abuse). No demand, no supply. And no sympathy from me either, in case you hadn't guessed.
