SIXTY tons of a drug linked to al-Qaeda is imported into the UK every week and openly used by addicts — because it is not illegal here.

The green leaves of the plant khat are flown in from Kenya and then chewed by users at dens across Britain. The leaves give a high similar to that produced by amphetamines and side effects including disorientation and hallucination. Khat is widely used in Somalia and neighbouring African countries. And although banned in the US, Canada, France and Germany it is still legal here — a fact that has made Britain the centre of a thriving import trade.

Anti-khat campaigners say Somali-based Islamic extremists al-Shabaab use cash from khat sales to fund terrorism. And they claim the al-Qaeda linked militants recruit directly from the UK’s khat dens, ensnaring youngsters who have become hooked on the drug.

al-qaeda- ra ra ra

just let the somali's have their drug and stop being so racist, paper run by rupert murdoch with no scruples, bribing the police and a narrow minded right wing sexist anti-gay agenda.

evil brainwashing bastards

i saw a news story about khat being seized by airport officials every week at JFK int'l.....i don't know anyone who actually uses khat

"drug linked to Al-Qaeda"

Lol!

The only link it has to Al-Qaeda is that khat is mostly used by brown people and Al-Qaeda is made up of brown people, but that's totally the same thing!

100 years later, and we're still deciding our drug policy on racial prejudice.
And they claim the al-Qaeda linked militants recruit directly from the UK’s khat dens, ensnaring youngsters who have become hooked on the drug.

Khat dens? Jesus christ are they serious? This whole article reads like a parody of extremist anti-drug scare tactics.

Lately I haven't been able to get any comments past the mods on the Sun. I'm not insulting anyone or posting off-topic. I just seem to be blacklisted or something. Heck, even the Daily Mail allows comments against their editorial policy. What is this?

All I wanted to do was tell Abukar Awale that he was a traitor to his own community. What's wrong with that?

On second thoughts...
