At least 40 new "legal high" drugs have flooded into Britain in the past year sparking fears they could lead to a spate of deaths.

Experts monitoring the appearance of so-called "legal highs" in the UK, claim a new generation of drugs that circumvent the country's laws has been created in China by unscrupulous chemists and then exported to the UK.
Figures compiled by the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs reveal that 40 new synthetic drugs appeared on sale in the UK during 2010. In the previous year there were 24 new drugs identified. In 2008 there were just 13.
Drug treatment experts said that young people taking the drugs were playing "Russian roulette" with their lives.
It comes after a row last year over the ban on one designer drug called mephedrone, or meow meow, when a leading Government drugs advisor warned the move would cause users to turn to other more dangerous synthetic alternatives.
Many of the new compounds are based on illegal drugs which have been tweaked so as not to be covered by the list of banned substances.

Twenty years from now there's guna be a million different highs they need to start making make synthetic opiod dc's I wonder if ne of these 40new ones are opiate based but im in the us ne ways

I would not trust my shit to be disposed of in China. They would likely paint it with lead and label it as food. For fuck sake, if you're reading this and thinking about buying these, DON'T.

These are probably all 500mg+ of caffeine and maybe a little MDPV in a few of them. They certainly will not be new synthetic cannabinoids.

Honestly I think the only reason MOST people use these is because cocaine scares them, and there haven't been studies that prove these new compounds to be more harmful, so they think it must be less harmful. Well, they're probably much worse for you than whatever drug they mimic.

It all went Pete Tong after meth was banned. Before that you probably got what you ordered. It's really quite a shame that both the suppliers and vendors of RCs have behaved so irresponsibly and recklessly by supplying dangerous stuff that isn't what it says on the tin. They more or less handed the government all the reason it needs to ban whatever it wants on a plate. Maybe the government paid them to...;)

I've seen sites selling 2-DPMP AKA Ivory Wave. Who wants to buy that stuff? Why even try and sell it?

Seriously, take a RC that hasn't killed someone if you want a stimulant. Like caffeine+2c-*.

40? :O I can think of maybe 15?

And no the ones im thinking of aren't bs caffeine + banned cathinone + industrial waste..

Dimethylamylamine is a stimulant that was created by tinkering with the chemical structure of the banned substance BZP.

Flood of new 'legal high' drugs hits Britain despite crackdown on meow meow

Britain is being flooded with dozens of potentially lethal new ‘legal highs’ every year, experts warned last night.
Some 40 new drugs were discovered last year, but police are powerless to stop their sale because they fall outside existing bans.
Experts said users were playing ‘Russian roulette’ with their lives by taking drugs bought on the internet without knowledge of their potential impact.
The number of ‘legal highs’ appearing in Britain has shot up from just 13 in 2008 to 28 in 2009 and 40 last year, according to figures compiled by the European Drug Monitoring Centre.
Ministers have pledged to update drugs laws to stop unscrupulous chemists dodging bans.
Rules which would allow new legal highs to be outlawed as soon as they hit the streets are currently before Parliament.
They would implement temporary restrictions while the Government’s scientific advisors conducted a full review.
This would mean drugs could be stamped out early before their use becomes widespread, ministers say.

The proposals were drawn up by the Tories in opposition after controversy surrounding mephedrone, or meow meow.
Labour was accused of dithering over a ban on the drug, which has been linked to a string of deaths.
Currently new drugs are created in back-street laboratories in China as quickly as they can be banned in the UK.

They are designed to mimic the effects of Class A drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy while having enough differences in terms of their chemical make-up that they do not fall within existing bans.
In recent months researchers have discovered a new form of crystal meth and a substitute for ketamine, a horse tranquiliser used to induce hallucinations.
Another new substance is A3A – a powder similar to mephedrone which can cause panic attacks, a quickened heart rate and even psychosis.

John Ramsey, a toxicologist at St George’s University of London hospital, examines substances which can be bought online and those found in ‘drug amnesty’ bins in nightclubs.
He warned that the new compounds were both potentially lethal and could cause long-term health problems.
‘There are a tremendous number of new compounds coming on the market,’ Dr Ramsey said.
‘We don’t know how long the effects last, how potent they are, what the appropriate dose is, and we don’t know how toxic they are.’
Ken Checinski, medical director at drug treatment charity Addaction, said: ‘There is also an assumption that because something is legal, it is also safe. This is not the case.
‘People are playing Russian roulette with the physical and psychological effects of these drugs.’
A Home Office spokesman said: ‘The new legislation will enable police to confiscate
suspected substances and the UK Border Agency to seize shipments entering the country.’

Aye, because you wouldn't get stuff like dioxins in eggs over in Europe would you… ;)

IMO until the drugs these research chemicals are trying to mimic are legalised, people will continue taking these more dangerous drugs to avoid jail... When will the government learn we will fuck ourselves up beyond belief to get a high lol. Since Mephedrone was such a big hit that has sparked the RC scene's growth, we all know that there is this option to avoid jail.

I hope the prohibitionists feel happy.
Lets see how dangerous these legal new drugs are after they ban the next 200 of chemicals they make.
I wonder how much it takes for prohibitionists to see how much negative effects the current laws(and political mentality) brings forth; maybe they dont even know that these things have a causality? :p

Just because there is little to no research done on these drugs it doesn't necessarily mean they are any more dangerous than illegal ones. Some might turn out to be more safe?

Obviously there are some "research chemicals" out there that are more dangerous but there are some that probably aren't..

^^ was going to say the same thing, didn't think METH was big in the UK, but it was MEPH that blew up the RC scene, where as it was METH that blew up the midwest usa... literally

Who really knows what we are buying legal or illegal?

I turned to the JHW's after they started adding glass to my green, to add weight.

I turned to Meph after my speed got weaker and weaker.

Do the research and dont be the first to try a new RC, confirm that suppliers are legit by speaking to people on forums that have used them.

Given the choices - if I wanna get high then I'm prepared to take the risk with RC's.
