Cannabis is a “gateway drug” that exposes users to other people who are involved in “harder substances” and should not be legalised, an ex-drug addict has told The Christian Institute. Luke Wardle, who began selling drugs at the age of 15 went on to deal in amphetamines and developed a cocaine habit by the age of 19. Luke told the Institute how smoking cannabis caused him to climb up the ladder of drugs.

He described how his various addictions led to feelings of paranoia, anxiety and depression. Speaking of other addicts he knew, he explained how cannabis had left them in a “complete mess” with some even developing serious mental health problems including schizophrenia. Luke, whose wife is now expecting their first child, also told the Institute of his astonishment that instead of prison he only faced a £480 fine for importing a large amount of cannabis from Amsterdam.

Cannabis is a Class B drug – possession can result in up to five years in prison, although police are able to issue a warning or an on-the-spot fine of £90. Luke later came to know Christ. In this interview, he tells Colin Hart, Director of The Christian Institute, his story and why he’s against the liberalisation of cannabis.

Wow...what an exclusive guys!! Can you all believe it, they actually managed to get an interview with an ex-drug addict who says a few things they want.

And they even disabled viewer comments on the YouTube video just in case anyone says a few things they don't want!

The nasty and deadly effects of religion, have caused more evil in one bloody week than cannabis has ever.

I will keep my smoke away from you, if you keep your crazy talk away from me.

"Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around... and PLEASE don't try to shove it down everybody throat"

I dont get it, its a gateway drug because it brings you into the loop with other 'harder' drugs, so keep it illegal so that it continues bringing people closer to 'harder' drugs?

This guy's opinion has most likely probably been influenced by religion, narc piggies, and clueless quacks - all who most likely probably base their own opinions on outdated textbooks, and perhaps witnessing strangers.

The good news for our persecuted and oppressed (and not to mention, mostly non-violent) minority, is that it appears less and less of the population is willing to accept such hyperbole as scientific fact beyond a reasonable doubt. And I bet that's not so good news for the giant conglomerates which own/run the tobacco, pharmaceutical, and alcoholic beverage businesses. Well, to them I say: it's about damn time you white-collar crooks imploded.

As little as ~28 years ago, when the LGBT community was not nearly as tolerated as it is now, the use of marijuana was blamed for increasing the incidence of males who end up turning gay, and also spreading AIDS.

While it's not exactly a new argument against the use, decriminalization, and legalization of Cannabis Sativa, the "gateway drug" theory is at best, a rare opportunistic occurrence among pot smokers.

In contrast, alcoholic beverages are much more likely to lower inhibitions towards the use of lower or similar risk "harder" drugs. And I base my opinion on not just the linked article, but decades of experience, where I've witnessed countless drunks accept my (or someone else's) offer of lower or similar risk "harder" drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, meth, and benzodiazepines. In contrast, the potheads just wanted pizza and/or bacon cheeseburgers with their ganja.

I have heard that if you abuse religion and consume it in large doses, it can turn you into a pedifile, make you comit suiside with a bomb in crowded public places, turn you paranoid and extremely self righteous attacking other religion users and start wars, fly planes into skyscrapers, go into schools and take young girls prisoners, and much more.

That religion is dangerous stuff.. it can take over your mind and make you do crazy stuff.. I would just say NO.

I wish it was possible to overdose on religion, then the world would have a way of self-limiting such an infectious condition.

It's my non professional opinion that Rob Ford may be this kind of drug user. Gets drunk and ends up out of control, could be drugs, could be strippers. It's hard to quit other drugs if you drink like a fish because any kind of self control you may have built up just goes right out the window.
I know a lot of pot heads and none ever said pot wasn't strong enough and went and got hard drugs. I also know a few people who get drunk and they have to be restrained and have their car keys and ATM card taken or they will end up at the crack house. Beer commercials would be so awesome if they showed the dark side of booze. Instead of hot babes and fun show homeless people and people with DT's and people getting assaulted. Pot has no commercials.

I feel exactly the same way, in that, my view of Rob Ford's propensity for behaving belligerent in public - and resorting to using street drugs - is strongly influenced by his habitual use of alcohol.

Alcohol is also my gateway drug, which is why I try to avoid it altogether.

I do not recall a time where I got drunk and didn't want to take it further by mixing with cocaine or ecstasy. And why not? It's such a better high. And that's why I totally understand Ford's persistence about it all. I mean... some good beer + cocaine off the brick... doesn't get much better than that, IME.

Re. Rob Ford - I can't stand the guy because he's a hypocrite, not because of the 'illegal' drug use. When asked if he used crack more than once, he answered yes, but when asked if he believes users should be thrown in jail, his answers - again - was yes. So, perhaps he should start with himself, but then he starts acting like the rules don't apply to him. It made me completely lose any sympathy I had for him.

I know a lot of pot heads and none ever said pot wasn't strong enough and went and got hard drugs.

I totally believe you because whenever me or my buddies smoke pot, we NEVER feel like mixing.

The only cravings I do get when I smoke pot is food. Lots of food, and a desire to watch stand up comedy, followed by zzzzzzzz. How in the blue fuck does that - in any way, shape or form - make me a danger to society?

The ultimate irony about the war on (the minority who use street) drugs is that the drugs are available in virtually every prison in America.

Beer commercials would be so awesome if they showed the dark side of booze. Instead of hot babes and fun show homeless people and people with DT's and people getting assaulted.

Hehe - If I had the means, I'd shoot a booze commercial featuring this homeless alcoholic who is infamous in my neighborhood for using the local 7-Eleven to feed his addiction by going in there to buy mouthwash in order to avoid withdrawal. At least his breath should smell decent =D

If cannabis is a gateway drug, what a glorious gateway it is.

'Christian Institute' is just sore because nobody goes on about their pearly gates any more.
Enough about gates, gateways... roll a fucking j for chrissakes.

Considering I live in my little bubble that is Los Angeles, where weed is pretty much accepted, I don't even read stuff like this. Still, I find it hilarious/pathetic, because in my experience weed can make you question usage of other drugs. I can't tell you how many times I've been faded and just been like fuck...should I still do acid on Friday? That might not be a good idea.

Of course I still end up doing what I planned, but still. I also can't tell you how many times I've heard "dude I did yay last night". "What happened I thought you were done with that stuff?". " I was drunk". If anything is a gateway drug it's definitely booZe.

It seems this man who found Christ, doesn't know that the bible says God gave humanity every herb bearing seed, including marijuana, for our benefit. It is man who has created laws criminalizing our human rights and this guy defends oppression and evil?? You couldn't make this stuff up. As soon as I read the OP's original article it was screaming at me pure propaganda. I don't follow any religion but I know more than he does about his own beliefs :)

Every drug is a gateway drug. First i started smoking cigarettes, then drinking alcohol, then taking lsd, then smoking pot, then doing cocaine, then taking ecstasy, then crystal meth, then ketamine, then shooting heroin (very rarely), then taking research chemicals, and finally smoking crack.

Meth is my drug of choice, but right now I can't get high quality meth at a reasonable price, so I don't do it. And I stopped smoking crack when my dealer pulled a knife on me. Don't you just love the ghetto?
