A DRUG addict died for every single day of the year in 2010 as Scotland's drugs death toll hit 365.
And shockingly 930 babies were born to addict mothers last year — an increase of 53 per cent in 12 months.
The death rate was highest in Glasgow with 77 addicts dying, Dundee and Aberdeen had 50 drugs deaths between them and in Edinburgh 31 died. The figures came as it was revealed the NHS bill for methadone prescriptions has soared to a new high of over £28million.
Justice Minister Roseanna Cunningham said £28.6million is going on front-line drug treatment and recovery services in 2012/13. She added: "We have reformed Scotland's approach to tackling drug misuse."
Labour's Lewis Macdonald said: "These statistics show how wrong-headed the SNP plans to cut the drug misuse budget by over £2million is."
