We all know too much sugar is bad for us, but scientists in the US now claim that products sweetened with sugar are as addictive as cocaine or nicotine.

With 28 studies, into the effects of sugar on the brain, in the past year alone, the scientists say the volume of research indicating the addictive quality of high-sugar foods is so overwhelming that it can no longer be dismissed.

all i can say is, when i eat a nice big bar of dark choccy, and sit in the sunlight or where there is sunlight facing me, with some euphoric classic trance playing,

It feels like the last 30 minutes of a 150mg Mdma dose, (lasts me say 5 hours of pleasure)
Like the bit where you feel the coool euphoria in waves.

Right now for instance, :)

weird.
no way though..isn't cocaine supposed to be the gold standard for addictive potential or thereabouts?

the title of this thread is rather spot on though,
Lol.

Cupcakes are better value for money than cocaine in the Uk,
the purity is just absolutely appalling

To the folks mentioning chocolate, you have to consider that that has theobromine, not just sugar.

is theobromine addictive?
I feel as though i really like to eat a bar of dark chocolate every single day that its not sunny outside,

to lift my mood,

i definately get a nice little mood lift from eating say, 100g of 60% dark chocolate,

So in that sense i do find it addictive,
but id rather eat chocolate, than do a substance say during the week,

A wise decision, I'm trying to get more in line with such healthful habits. Though my choice would be green tea rather than chocolate (I also drink plenty of herbal, black, white, and oolong teas). Though even if doing other stuff, I drink tea like mad during the colder months.

Oh yeah, thread topic. This doesn't surprise me really, when you get in the habit of eating sweet foods (food in general can be consumed like a drug though), it can be difficult to get out of it (well, more difficult than stopping eating most other varieties of food, IME. I don't get cravings for spinach or zucchini when I stop having those regularly).

How's this for a study: put cocaine in supermarkets right next to cupcakes and let's see which one wins.

That totally makes sense, I mean look at how many overweight people there are in the world, food's totally a drug! Not in the direct sense of the word, but it makes you feel good, and everyone wants to feel good, plus it's more socially acceptable and easier to shove your face full of food all the time than say, snort coke in bathrooms at lunchtime.

There's a lot more people in the world addicted to food, than coke.

I assume, might be wrong :x

Food is the drug that we are all addicted to.
