Richard Branson supports the Beckley Foundation who last year took out a full page add in a major newspaper stating that there was "no known cure for drug addiction". This misguided and incorrect mantra is the cornerstone for a highly dangerous and very influential group that Branson heads up called the Global Commission on Drug Policy. There are 19 prominent individuals who make up this commission and it is my intention to take each and every one of them to a community in Italy that for 30 years has been curing people of drug addictions. This extraordinary place is called San Patrignano.

I wonder if Mr Branson will rally his 19 members and release some sort of statement saying that we must make marijuana legal. If there is a statement I wonder how that would have helped those who have died from drug abuse? Aside from the fact that he bases his theory on the fact 50% of Mr Branson's friends have taken marihuana and are supposedly fine I am curious to know what other research and experience that he has to make him bold enough to say that there is "no known cure for drug addiction"?

Every country and every government leader that has anything to do with drug policy or drug addiction needs to look at the success of San Patrignano. It's also time that we stop giving celebrities opportunities to push ill-informed and unfounded advice on drug addiction that is just as dangerous and destructive as the substance that they want to make legal.

There are billions of black market cigarettes shifted every year, there is a HUGE black market in pharmaceuticals, designer clothing, etc etc.
Making drugs legal would never stop the black market.
And the whole idea of taxing drugs to make money for the state? Illogical when you consider the costs of health harms related to tobacco and alcohol don't nearly get covered by the taxes on them... it is a flimsy argument which can be brought down, logically, with a minimum of real research.
