Nearly a year after the former legal high mephedrone was outlawed in the UK, Barnstaple police say the class B drug is still surprisingly popular in the town. Reporter Joel Cooper accompanied officers on two drug raids in search of the banned substance.

He said: "It's surprisingly popular at the moment. Some people still think it's legal.

"But if we find even a trace of it in other substances we can still take action.

"It's mostly purchased for recreational use but I've known heroin addicts to use mephedrone when they can't get hold of heroin."

Could someone explain to me how can mephedrone help with opioid withdrawals? This appears as stupid as all those drug "educators" whose friend jumped out of a third story window while being under the influence of LSD.

I wonder whether it's sheer stupidity or perhaps it was said in order to create association between mephedrone and heroin (users).

why are cops allowed to raid people's homes in search of drugs?

I honestly think they're still mistaking it for methadone

Does he mean stick to the illegal ones - asshole :!

I am sure that they meant methadone, but man it makes me smile to read that quote.

This guy proally talks to kids to help prevent them from shooting LSD and snorting crack.

WHAT?! You mean that even though you made it illegal people still use it?
Shit, that is surprising. People breaking the law and using illegal drugs, DESPITE THE FACT that they are illegal.
Surely this defies all logic?

it is surely evidence of the black nature of the beast

What?!
No coffee, no alcohol, no cigs, no advil, no tylenol, no aspirin, no heart medication, no anti-depressants?
Don't take legal research chemicals either, because, well, they are legal, but...?
Is that really the best advice?
Ignorant asshole.

supposedly legal

So only take them when you have confirmation they're legal? Sounds like RC Hodgson is looking out for drug users interests here.

He's just saying that you should make absolutely sure that the research chemicals you're ordering are legal before ordering them.

The law is, after all, the best measure of what is right/wrong and good/bad for your health.

They surely meant methadone...

....but on a related note, my friend who was a heavy junkie insisted (good) coke really helped withdrawals. He'd cut a massive pile out on the table and keep doing these monster lines. I can't say I ever had the balls to try his technique (although I would never have w/ds that massive either)

^Around here it's pretty common to use coke or meth to cover withdrawal when you can't find dope/some other opiate.

Mephedrone does actually mask withdrawals for me pretty well for me, but I imagine the cops were confused with methadone.

Yeah, coke/meth don't work for me, either, but a lot of the people I used with swore by it.

Although mephedrone blocks (1st day) withdrawal for me, I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a bunch of stims for opiate withdrawal; it does work for some people, but there's a good chance you'll feel a hell of a lot worse.

Mephedrone comedown combined with opiate withdrawal sounds like hell on earth.

I suspect it's the journalist's lack of knowledge on the subject rather than police misinformation that has caused this awful news article. Misheard methadone for mephedrone.

Besides, since when was 'people take illegal drug' news?
