A British woman has been arrested over the smuggling of cocaine worth £1.6 million on to the tropical island of Bali. Lindsay Sandiford, 55, originally from Redcar, covered her face as she was taken out to face the media at a press conference in Kuta, a holiday town on the Indonesian island.

Indonesia has extremely strict drug laws and convicted smugglers are executed. More than 140 people are on death row, a third of them foreigners. A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the arrest in Bali, and we stand ready to provide consular assistance."

Drugs are destroying lives and destroying countries
regrettably only draconian punsihment will reduce this scourge. As this example shows people know the laws but will still take the risk for chance of a quick large payoff. It mostly ends in tears.
Everybody who shoots, snorts, smokes or injects
is just rewarding vicious gangsters who have absolutely no respect for human life. Money is the god they worship, people are their sacrifices. Some drug lords have more money than some small countries. They need to be exterminated. Without the mules and dealers the trade would stop.

Keeping scum like this on Death Row merely wastes the government's (and taxpayers') money and inflicts mental torture on the offender. Summary execution by firing squad, on the same day the offender is found guilty, is the only solution. Death is the only just punishment for drug traffickers.
