A so-called safe alternative to ketamine which has been linked to two deaths could be banned under Government plans.
Methoxetamine, or mexxy, has been referred to the Government's drugs advisers in a bid to impose a temporary banning order, the Home Office said.
It follows concerns that two people whose bodies were found in Leicestershire last month may have taken some form of the drug after buying it over the internet.

Minister for crime prevention and antisocial behaviour reduction Lord Henley said:

'We have become increasingly concerned at the potential harms of methoxetamine, and continue to work with our drug experts on the ACMD to decide on the best way to protect public health.

'Methoxetamine is one of the new psychoactive substances that has been identified by our forensic early warning system, which detects new substances in the UK.

It's kind of frustrating knowing that David Cameron is probably as anti-prohibition as the rest of us but is powerless to express his views now. Obviously a party leader has to appear to agree 100% with his own party's policies and he probably doesn't see legalisation of drugs to be worth sacrificing everything else he believes he can do for.

OK, it's appearing in the Daily Mail and Independent now. Time for me to vent spleen in the reader comments :<

But despite claims that MXE is 'safer' than the illegal alternative there is no evidence that it is true - and experts say that it can cause mental health problems.

If banned, the advisers would then consider whether it should be placed under permanent control under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

Junior Home Office Minister Lord Henley said: "We have become increasingly concerned at the potential harms of methoxetamine, and continue to work with our drug experts on the ACMD to decide on the best way to protect public health.

I want to cry :/ This drug has done a lot for me. In fact, I no longer feel depressed after the therapeutic use of it. There are irresponsible users of it but imo, with this compound, the benefits outweigh the negatives.

I have a feeling the papers will be browsing the vendors websites looking for something else to write about. I bet 6-apb will be the next drug to go. Daily Fail headline: "New LETHAL, LEGAL high which mimics effects of ECSTASY is causing concern".

I am in Canada so this doesn't necessarily pertain to me, but, I have to say I was very skeptical of this drug, I figured it was going to be a disappointment like I had heard other RC's ended up being.
I have used K in abundance and it seemed like that was the only way to reach a level where I could have a true mental break (crying for hours)
Abundance for me was about 6 grams of ketamine over 2 weeks. Not tons. It would seem to be set off by a movie or book or album when I would use K, but those emotion breaks were what I picture people aim for after an ayahuasca experience. I would shed pounds of tension and pent up feelings in a matter of hours.

I recently got some methoxetamine and tried a very low dose... boring, what I was expecting. I could achieve the same effect with an office chair.
I tried it in 3 - 30mg doses spaced over a few hours. As the last dose came on I was drawn to a movie I had never heard of before, bland cover, bland title and description. I watched it and it felt like the most important thing for me at the time and I wept at the end for about half an hour. I have been great since. Before this I was always thinking about things I shouldn't bother myself with and the important things fell to the side. Now, I have made strides to improve relationships and my own feelings of what I love and what is important to me.
I have not had the urge to use opiates in weeks!!! Watch!!!, *Slowly shaving oxycontin, tightly rolling a bill, that feeling in my stomach!* (NOTHIN'! HAHA) It is strange for me not to have an urge for opiates at least once a week. The fact that I don't feel that urge immediately after my methoxetamine experience I think speaks volumes for how therapeutic this drug CAN be. I have been working my ass off (I recently became "in between jobs") on several building projects (something I didn't do) I have been listening to a lot of reggae, which normally only happens in the summer when I am feeling great.

It is just pretty sad that there are so many chemicals that can be used recreationally and therapeutically, but, the recreational aspect gets it banned.

people need to stop marketing chemicals with cute little names and claims that are essentially a set-up. Just sell it in plain packaging with the chemical name and that'll keep the newspapers away. But when you start calling it ROFLCOPTR and MeXXXie and say it's "the safe ketamine", then the media's gonna pick at your bones as soon as something goes awry.

It's almost too easy. These stories write themselves.

sell it as fucking 2-(3-methoxyphenyl)-2-(ethylamino)cyclohexanone, just the chemical, and the voltures will stay away

Tox results.

I want to see the Tox results of those two deaths.

How do we find this, public record ?

Thanks.

I was expecting to see it in more articles by now. It looks like it is only in the DM and Independent so far and very little reader activity which means the articles are not really featured. So not only is MXE facing a death it is facing a near-silent death.

I have tried to find information on the two deaths in Leicestershire linked to MXE and have found nothing online.

Friends in Melton Mowbray (the location of one of the deaths) tell me that the user thought they were taking "meow meow".
So, with all the shite mephedrone substitutes being sold as meph, they could have consumed anything!

Unfortunately, I think this is true…

The mighty oracle

Predictions :

  • 1 or 2 new ketamine analogues will be out by the summer
  • Catch all ketamine/arylcyclohexylamine analogue style law within 12 months/1year
