Drug warning after baby attack

Police have issued a warning after a baby was allegedly grabbed and thrown from its pram by a teenager suspected of taking a legal high called Salvia. The alleged assault happened this afternoon in Newbiggin, Northumberland.

Police warning over legal high 'Salvia'

Our advice is - just because it says 'legal' on the packet does not mean it is safe. These products are usually made from chemicals that can have a serious effect on your health. People appear to be suffering some particularly nasty side effects to this substance, Salvia, and we are concerned that there appears to be a quantity of it circulating in the Ashington area at this time. If you are in possession of this substance do not use it - and if you have taken it seek medical assistance at once.

wtf is a pram? salvia is not something you should be doing in public anyhow, who knows what happens when you smoke salvia, it's very unpredictable. I've smoked it more times than i can count and at higher doses i black out completely for a few minutes. Salvia doesn't last long though so how likely is it that some teen smokes salvia and somehow throws a baby from its pram? whatever that is lol Not likely i think.

There are enough youtube videos of people jumping or trying to jump out windows after smoking salvia, so users should at least take some caution and be in a safe place with sober people around in case anything strange happens.

Salvia is a wild card no doubt. I had a good long talk about that substance with some co-workers today. Some people black out completely, some cant move, some move way too much. I have seen kids hit a full sprint in the middle of a 1/4g 40x hit. That amount blacks me out and I remember bits and piece over time.

I think this is honestly one the best written and honest articles about drugs. Sure, there were some misconceptions or bad wording. But technically there are chemicals in salvia that are harmful. The extraction process is far from perfected and I would be surprised if most brands of salvia dont have some kind of adulterant whether added on purpose or accidentally through processing. I am a vegetarian and know full well that when I eat a bowl of shredded wheat that I am most likely eating some processed grasshopper/locust legs along with it. Can't be controlled.

A pram is a stroller basically. Don't take salvia in public. Don't black out and throw babies. Simple, I'd say.

  • Teenager threw baby to the ground after mother started talking to him
  • Another boy is in hospital today after taking the same drug
  • Salvia Divinorum can produce vivid hallucinations in users
  • Police have advised users to seek medical help if they have taken any

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested today for grabbing a stranger's baby and throwing it to the pavement while high on a legal drug called Salvia. The teenager was arrested on suspicion of assault in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Northumberland this afternoon. Witnesses say he pulled the baby out of the pram and hurled it to ground after the mother started talking to him because he appeared to be in distress. The child was checked over at Wansbeck Hospital in Ashington but was luckily unharmed.

Northumbria Police issued an urgent warning after it emerged that not only was the boy under the influence of Salvia but another local teenager had been hospitalised today having smoked a Salvia cigarette.

The boy, a pupil at Ashington High School, is now in a stable condition having collapsed. Salvia Divinorum is known as Diviner's Sage and can produce vivid hallucinations and psychotic episodes in users. According to FRANK, the government drug education service, physical harm resulting from its use is usually the consequence of people injuring themselves or others whilst under its influence. It is one of the most powerful known hallucinogenic herbs.

It is often marketed as 'herbal ecstasy', can be either smoked or chewed, and can easily be bought online. Superintendent Mick Paterson said: 'Our advice is, just because it says ‘legal’ on the packet does not mean it is safe. 'People appear to be suffering some particularly nasty side effects to this substance, Salvia, and we are concerned that there appears to be a quantity of it circulating in the Ashington area at this time.' He advised: 'If you are in possession of this substance do not use it, and if you have taken it seek medical assistance at once.' Northumberland police are making inquiries in the area and are speaking to witnesses to find out what happened. Officers asked anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information about it to contact police on the 101 non-emergency number.

This may be legal but in some cases is worse than pot. A guy i knew did this stuff it is highly addictive and you change into someone you don't even know. This guys wife literally confiscated the stuff but due to his addiction he went straight off to buy more. He doesn't even remember walking there it was just a blur.

Couldn't give a toss about that stupid idiot - pity the mum didn't kick him in the privates before he got a chance to get to the baby. Hope he rots.

1st bad press about Salvia since the ancient tribes discovered it thousands upon thousands of years ago that I've heard. Shamans of old used it and still do to date for visions and guidance. No one has the right to ban nature, how can anyone be arrogant enough to tell nature that it's got it wrong? All plants and living things were created for a reason. However, it's just a shame there are young idiots out there who abuse things to excess and end up causing harm. How the hell anyone would be capable of even opening a door let alone walking about outside after a blast of salvia is beyond me. A blast of it results in around 10 minutes of madness that is different each time. Silly young fool to be in that condition in public, and shame on him for the harm he caused.

He's talking like its on the black market and that consumption is entirely determined by availability. It's legal. Anyone who wants the stuff can buy it. Duh!

This is why proper education on these things is so important. I'm glad the baby came through with only minor injuries.

Anyone interested on trying some of the higher strength extracts properly should always have a trip sitter. Salvia extracts are no joke, and I would say when ingested properly it is probably one of the MOST psychoactive substances there are. A dark, damp place that reeks of eternity. It has a strange depth, and there can be very enlightening experiences. It is certainly a good thing it only lasts like 2 minutes in the real world, and that most people have enough sense to not do it in public.

Newbiggin, Northumberland? Wtf.. where is that?

Mothers, do not approach random "distressed-looking" people with your baby.

I hate to bother you,
but I just dropped
a baby out the window

and it fell 15 stories
and splattered against
the sidewalk.

May I borrow a mop?

Newbiggin is the Town. Northumberland is the County. Pronounce the "Biggin" Like Jebediah Springfield's "Embiggen" and you say Northumberland thusly: "North-umber-land" (umber as in the colour) :)
