Oh hell yes, alprazolam and/or Xanax can most definitely cause depression. Especially for those already prone to depression/natural chemical inbalances in the brain. At the wrong times, Xanax can make me very agitated or depressed. Sometimes, the complete opposite, euphoric relaxation and bliss of the body and mind.
I was prescribed 1mg Xanax XR for a little over a year; during the several years spent on benzo's, I was on few different benzodiazepines/hypnotics- Alprazolam extended-release (Xanax XR) 1mg daily, Diazepam (Valium) 10mg daily and like 20 x 2.5mg pez valium (that Indian psychiatrist was a selfish, smug, and threatening-over-THC prick), Clonazepam (Klonopin) round-yellow 0.5mg x 3/1.5mg daily. Lorazepam (Ativan) 2mg daily x 30, two months only, other month was only spent on 1mg tablets Temazepam (Resotril) 30mg white capsules a few times/15mg capsules the majority of the time; 30mg temazepam x 30 white caps was my favorite script EVER! Still on 10mg zolpidem/generic Ambien IR 10mg before bed x 30 a month. Just rambling on some background info on myself.
For more energy I'd honestly suggest 0.5-1mg clonazepam (sublingual IMO) all throughout the entire day, dose higher if needed, 5-10mg valiums (always sublingual IMO) all day; stop at 30-40mg total, great muscle-relaxation, euphoric/more mood-lift than any benzo, and quite a duration thanks to a spectrum of metabolites, 1mg-2mg Etizolam pellets, hopefully Intas Etilaam, Etizest, Sedekopan, Etizola, Etizex, Depas, Pasaden or name-bran-pharm-made for equal proportions (thienodiazepine, not a benzo, but close enough maybe better IME/O) can be energetic because of it's, IME, strong euphoriant effects and there is a said increase in inter-synaptic concentrations of 5-HT and NE through dual blockade of neuronal reuptake of these neurotransmitters. It has shown up for TCA's/Tricylic AD's in UA's before. And the last I'm suggesting is merely for the fact that you wanted to maintain energy- 1-2mg lorazepam tablets through out the day, totaling no more than 4-5mg's daily. Lorazepam can make me very depressed and has strong amnesic properties.
I highly suggest Diazepam or Etizolam.
