Hey guys im a junior in high school atm and am starting to look at schools and am really interested in UBC (University of British Columbia). Vancouver seems like a great city, notorious for great buds :D, and seems like a place I can see myself spending atleast 4 years at.

My question is A. Does anybody here go there? and B. If you do, how do you like it? How is student life there? and i know this shouldn't really affect my choice of school but I have to ask, hows the drug scene?
 
Don't go there, don't know anybody who's enrolled, don't know the drug scene..

But I can tell you one of the reasons I regret applying to McGill is the drinking age + gambling age is 18/19 :) (can't remember which for Montreal) Poker + getting drunk and watching hockey are some of my favorite extracurricular activities.

One thing I can't stress enough about the application process (and I wish I had done more of it) is do research, do research, and do research. You can't ask too many questions about a school. And if you're serious about going to school in Canada you'll want to visit (depending on how far away you live) or if you can't, do an interview over the phone with one of the admissions people. Nothing like getting in to a school that you find out you don't like once you get there :(

And I know you said it shouldn't affect your decision, but please for the love of god don't decide on a school or rule a school out based on it's drug scene. It's a campus. They have all drugs. Some more then others, but it's likely you'll be able to find what you're looking for.
 
^ i would beg to differ...its perfect in theory - but toooons of people ive met have suffered sobriety because of a lack of obvious druggies and/or communication oncampus.
 
I have a friend who went there.. then left his second year to spend the rest of his life stoned and tripping all over India. But I know he was able to score drugs (e.g. mj, x) there before he left..

Btw BC is absolutely gorgeous.

You're right. Most schools have a drug scene as there are, well, universities, but definitely go to UBC because you want to go there or because it will be beneficial for you to go there, not because of the drug scene.
 
ya regarding the drug scene question that was directed at someone who's currently attending, out of pure curiosity. But ya like someone mentioned Vancouver seems like a BEAUTIFUL city and a great place to spend a major part of my life.

I've pretty much read everything on their website but if anyone has any experience hat would be great, I know it's a great school but how well did you actually have to do to get accepted (GPA or SAT score-wise?)
 
Ya i figured, my application doesnt look too great either, i mean i did great in school and hopefully on the SATs but thats about it, no sports or activities :/

just some non-voluntary community service lol
 
lol, i was just talking to someone today who said ubc is like 80% asians. you know how hard they study too...

best keep to where you belong, haha (¿ ?)
 
lol ya everyone ive talked to says its really hard to get into. Dont get me wrong im a pretty bright kid but other than that ive got no credentials :).
