U.S. marshals in Miami tracked down a federal fugitive who escaped from custody 30 years ago and was living in a small, rural Central Florida town.

Ian Jackson MacDonald, 71, charged with drug trafficking, was arrested Tuesday at a house in Homosassa.

. . .

Here's how the years-long case unfolded:

Canadian authorities charged MacDonald, a Canadian citizen, with importing and trafficking in up to 500 pounds of marijuana.

He entered the United States legally in 1978 before the drug charges were issued. He was actually sending shipments of marijuana from Florida to Canada, Golden said.

. . .

Law enforcement lost track of him for the next 30 years. The U.S. Marshals Service in Miami formed a Cold Case Fugitive Squad.

. . .

He was picked up Wednesday, and reportedly told investigators he had been looking over his shoulders for the past 30 years and wondered when the day would come.

He brought up to 500 pounds of a dangerous substance to Canada: countless lives have been ruined by his amoral actions. Justice has been served here in honor of his innocent victims my good man.

I hope you are being sarcastic. How is marijuana a dangerous substance that has the potentially to ruin free thinking peoples lives? For one moderate marijuana use, especially consumed with out combustion has very limited side effects let alone long term effects.

The only victim in this situation is the guy who finally got busted.
