Hey, title pretty much sums it up. Lately almost every time I come to Bluelight, be it on my cell or my laptop, I get a prompt to complete the two-step verification process, get the pursuant email and complete the process, making sure to check the "remember this device for 30 days" box, but then the next time, here we are again.

Any insight? Could this be an issue on my end somehow? Appreciate the help very much, doesn't take but a few seconds for me each time but it's getting to be a pain in the ass lol. Thanks.

✌️ ❤️

not a tech guy and am offering no advice.... but I am guessing the underlying issue is linked to this thread.... https://www.bluelight.org/community/threads/potential-login-issues.948057/#post-16301242 and check out the latest post from @Shinji Ikari
- he could be onto something with the browser he is using, will test it out tonight on the log in issues I raised in that thread.

Again, I saw the post and replied as it sparked something in me.
Not complaining, pointing fingers or anything, just trying to find a solution for all users, as this is a pretty new issue.

Hey no worries at all, and thanks for the link. I had read some of that thread first but didn't really think my issue was exactly the same - I'm not being booted per se, it's remembering me, I'm never having to re-enter my username or password, it's just automatically prompting the two-step verification and sending the email with the code to my linked email. But just like the 'Remember me' box for other users, here the 'Remember this device' box doesn't seem to do much. Just weird lol, that's all.

On browsers - both devices I'm using DuckDuckGo, could be a possibility that's related, but I've been using it on both for much longer than this has been going on... 🤔

I am currently testing Firefox, will update on the outcome. Purely troubleshooting from a user's side. It may help, as the more specific the feedback us to the Dev guys, the better and a fix could be then implemented.

Not testing 2fa just the constant re logging in issue in other thread.

Chrome is currently what I have been using. Both android and Windows..just FYI.

I appreciate the input. Just odd to me, like just now on my Android, I was on BL for a bit, and then closed the browser so I could make a phone call that lasted just over ten minutes. When I was done and accessed BL again - automatic 2 step verification email/process. 🤔

ok.. had to log in again on chrome on my phone and about 20 minutes after previous session on Windows Chrome without logging out. ie Chrome is an issue.

Firefox I have tried on PC, and it seems to keep me logged in.

If it logs me out in an hour I will let you know - I will close Firefox after this post - replying on Firefox = (see easier to reply when not having to log in a lot ... :p)..updates will follow.

UPDATE

Firefox is keeping me logged in. No issues.

Chrome is not recording the "stay logged in" feature. So need to login after a new session each time.

Will copy this reply into the other technical thread too.

So it looks like a browser issue with regards to the new "Login" updates.

Hope this feedback can help the Tech/Dev guys with a fix.

Sorry guys, this is as much as I can do from a "user feedback" point of view to try and help.

I've had to complete two-step verification 16 times in the last 2 days. 🙁
can you get Firefox on your device?
it hasn't logged me out (I even installed it on my old smartphone), not even once on both Windows and Android.
I have a feeling it could work with the 2FA .... worth a try.

DEVS please note this... it might help in the future. ;) - it certainly solved the Stay Logged In issue.) Browser issue my side and a few other members have said the same.
Just FYI

Oh sorry, I am "highly allergic" to Apple :p so can't comment on safari

So update, first off I was mistaken on my browsers, it's DuckDuckGo on my laptop and Chrome on my phone. Still requiring me to do the 2fa, though now it's not accepting the 2fa on my phone when done correctly, I'm getting a BL error message that I should try again. Had to log back in fully this time as well. Able to log on on my laptop, locked out on my phone, same error message, different browsers. Odd lol.

can you post a screenshot?

Well, it finally worked on my phone and started working on my laptop yesterday. My phone has been my primary device for a while, the laptop being a fairly recent purchase. I'm not sure what resolved the issue; I tried the 2fa 30 times in the last 2 days on the phone, though I did reset my password on my laptop last night, but this didn't fix the issue immediately on the phone, or laptop... idk, it worked on my phone just now, here's hoping it keeps it up lol.

This just started happening to me two days ago on my laptop. Every time I come to BL have to authenticate. Same browser, using Duckduckgo. I will see if I can find any reason or if it just stops one day.

My phone, also using duckduckgo always goes right in. No issues.

I haven't checked in a couple days, I think the case on my laptop is the same as my phone now, which is I continually have to log in, but not do the 2fa now. Just goes straight through. 🤔

Yeah every time I leave the site on my laptop I have to use authentication. My phone, also uses duckduckgo is always logged in for the 30 days. Strange.

I have the opposite problem --- I am always logged in for some reason? Lol not a big deal I am here often.

sorry I got nothing for you but I hate 2fa -- every time I have had an account stolen it was a password than someone added they phone to 2FA so I was SOL

It finally stopped for me about 2 days ago. I am staying logged in now. No variable I did that could point to anything.

how do i get my 2FA authenticator app to work again for bluelight if it was deleted on my end?

what was deleted ? the app?

reinstall the app then run through these steps to set up 2fa:
  • Log in to your XenForo account.
  • Click on your username to open the dropdown menu and select Password and security.
  • Find the Two-step verification option and click the associated Change button.
  • Choose your preferred 2FA method, such as an Authenticator app.
  • A QR code will appear; use your authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy) to scan it.
  • Enter the six-digit code generated by your app and click Confirm.
  • Copy your backup codes and store them in a safe place.
