tv: the west wing

i just watched the season finale of the west wing and i have to say this is, to me, easily one of the best-written, directed and acted tv shows i've ever seen.

when this season started, i was disappointed that the shows would start to focus on the nomination of the next president more than the bartlett adminstration but tonight's show had me on the edge of my seat.

i had a lump in my throat during santos' speech to the convention.

anybody else a fan?

now that the current season is over, i'm going to play catch-up and watch it in its entirety from the start. i just watched the whole of season one on dvd and there were many great moments.

if you have not seen this show, definitely check it out.

i agree, awesome show. i havent seen past about series two but, it got put on really late at nite here and i couldnt be farked staying up to watch. luckily its now being replayed on cable so im catching up

so happy it's back.

i was discussing the elevator scene with a friend and both got something completely different out of it: i took it all as nothing more than a jokey exchange between josh and santos; my friend thinks there something to it. c'mon, a male flight attendant?

what do you think?

this is the only show i watch on television, and definitly my favorite show of all time.

the new night couldnt have worked out better.

i believe it was just a show of santos quick wit, another moment that makes you love the guy,i mean who doesnt at this point?

while i'm enjoying the cut and thrust out on the campaign, i prefer the bartlett-in-the-whitehouse episodes and last night's episode was excellent!

The West Wing was one of the greatest shows ever on tv. I can't even stand to watch it these days, which does make it hard for me to comment on the quality of the show at present. This is, however, a moot issue for me. Aaron Sorkin was the driving force behind the show that made it great, and when he left at the end of the fourth season it was all over. It's never been the same since and never will be. I mourned it a long time ago.

Now the good news is that those of you who havent' seen it yet are in for one helluva treat. Netflix or borrow or buy them or do whatever you have to do to watch the show, seasons one through four, in order. It is to die for. Some of the only truly quality programming to come off tv in the past 10 years. Best of the best. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll hurl.

This show has been unbelievably good lately. The writers do a fantastic job of connecting to the show to real life, the similarity has been uncanny lately. As sort of an Arnold Vinick Republican, it's interesting to see the right portrayed with some sanity for once.

last episode ever :(

i think they went out on a high note. it's a bummer it's done but i'm a strong believer in quitting while ahead...

i just had to stare at your cow for a minute. to see if i was crazy or not.

but good, quit while you are still loved. many shows should have taken this advice but instead have dragged it on for years (mostly comedies, though).

Who's who on West Wing

I just started watching The West Wing Season 1. Awesome! Anyway, I always wondered who's who in real life...

Obviously Martin Sheen is GWB but I am clueless on the rest. Help please?

fengtau - you've discovered one of my favourite shows

in that pic, left to right, we have:

toby ziegler played by richard schiff
cj played by alison janney
charlie young played by dule hill
leo mcgarry played by (the late, great) john spencer
jeb bartlett played by martin sheen
sam seaborne played by rob lowe
donna moss played by janel maloney
josh lyman played by bradley whitford

the president isn't supposed to be gwb - he's a (fictional) democrat!

i haven't read much of this thread because i've only seen up to the end of season four, but this really is a brilliant show.

i am constantly amazed by the quality of writing that aaron sorkin brings to the show. it is inevitably an episode of his when i am in total awe of the show; the man is a genius. the acting probably helps too.

edit: alasdair's a moderator again? wow, there is a god :)

alasdair, you misunderstood me. What I meant was in real person, who's who? E.g. Martin Sheen is the President who atm is GWB.

So who is more porwerful? Cheif of Staff or the Vice President?

Also, I think Michael Douglas would make a better President than Martin Sheen. Probably Michael is too expensive.
