well? how many of you used to watch this show back in the 90's? season one came out in 93 i believe...it was one of the funniest shows ever to be on MTV. it got horrible reviews, i remember one ad for it on MTV qutoed the NY post as saying "so bad it should be studied" lol

there are some good clips on youtube of random skits, but for the true state fan, season one DVD is out now. there is a petition to get MTV to release the rest of the seasons on DVD, which are already completed, but for some reason have been shelved.

if you have never seen it before, its a really random sketch comedy show that used to be on MTV. a lot of the actors in it have gone on to have sucessful side projects and carreers. reno 911, stella, wet hot american summer, those are all tied into actors in the state. most notably thomas lennon, robert ben garant, micheal ian black, kerri kenny, david wain.

^thats a clip of kevin allison as dan cortez of MTV sports fame. if you have never seen it, check it out. if you like the state a lot too, sign the petition and get the DVD's released.

^I did, and I'm going to get season 1 right away! I just read an interview with one of the members saying that they didn't know when it would be out.

yes, i watched and loved it. still one of my alltime favorites television programs. i'm definitely buying the DVD

^ohhh good lookin on that link lol...i did search, the and state gave me more than a few hits on the search engine.

season one is great as well, the only thing that sucks about it is that all the trademarked music has been edited out. like the skit with slash, its no longer g'n'r music, but some random rock stuff that sounds kind of familiar.

still really funny tho.

So you can send me to Grandma' s so she can teach me pinochle and make me bland?

Where did you hear that season 1 is out? Amazon says that the release is as of yet unannounced.

I remember the big complaint against The State back in the day was that it was a cheap Kids In The Hall rip-off. Right down to the haircuts.
I still thought it was pretty funny. A bit lowbrow at times though.

i have it. it just came out not too long ago. i happened across it on TPB. but its also in itunes and somethign else. its really good, worth checking out.

the one complaint i have is that the muscie has been changed. like the one where micheal ian black is looking for some pants and the breeders song cannonball is playing, now its a kinda similar sounding song. they must not have been able to get the bands clearance. there is no copyrighted music on the 1st dvd for some reason.

Dealbreaker.

The song cues fucking made that show. I will forever associate that song with the pants sketch. There's another one I remember where Kerry Kennedy is playing a mom hosting a kid's party and says 'OK everybody look at the clown!' and Nirvana's 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' comes into the background at JUST the right moment.

In much the same way as Heavy Metal, I'm guessing music royalties were a major issue in why this show never got released on DVD until recently.

I thought The State was fucking hysterical. But what can I say? I was raised on dumb comedy.
