Was this show big in america at all? (or anywhere else for that matter?) This is my new obsession and didn't actually watch it when it was aired but have borrowed season one and have watched the whole thing twice already. I think it's tops and can't wait to get my hands on season 2 but have heard it's not available in australia. I'll happily send some money to someone if they can get season 2 and 3 for me.... although i guess i should look on ebay first but that place scares me :p

The girls from The L word....

^^ Jenny - the confused bisexual

I can't think of a more mundane and boring premise to a television drama than sexual preference.

I really liked this show while it was on TV, I think it got axed before the 1st season finished here in Australia. I don't think it rewatchable enough to buy on DVD tho :\

That show was terrible. I had some lesbian friends who watched the show religiously and they even admitted (when pressed) that the show's dialogue, character development, and plot lines were awful, not to mention that, like every mainstream television show, the L Word's creators thought it necessary to cast unbelievably beautiful people in all roles. Give me a break.

^^^ maybe look wise realism isn't that great but at the same time you can't say that lesbians can't be femme and glam and also that it IS tv and hollywood after all so it's going to be "talked up" and glam'ed i guess

Why not? You don't think that the lesbian lifestyle would be different to the straight lifestyle? You don't think they would have seperate issues to deal with and what not?

Of course there are lesbian issues and they differ from straight ones, but as the only premise to a tv show it's ridiculous. Having homosexual characters and issues come up in something more developed could be very interesting.

Just because i think the premise of such shows are boring it doesn't negate others who enjoy them. :)

I can't stand The L Word at times, maybe it's because I think the creators blew their chance of making something of substance and opted for glitter-and-shine, (yes, there were some dark story lines but nothing too challenging, just the expected and in the third season, almost a little irresponsible.)

Though to be fair, I think it's because I'm such a huge Queer as Folk fan is why I'm so disappointed in The L Word.

I like the cast but maybe not for this particular show, the actresses and actors have proven themselves in so many ways before The L Word so you can't really blame them.

The script had it's moments but just not enough to propel it and hold it on it's own.

My biggest angst issue was the imaginary, it was just so so bland!

Everything is beige, white and blue. Lights slice through scenes like they used natural light most of the time which the effect I usually love (Arrested Development) but in that setting; LA it seemed so fake and bland and stupid.

I think the show could have been so much more, maybe if they focused on younger lesbians? Or if it was more political? Or if they set it in Boston? Or Chicago? New York? Just something.

It's watchable but also really forgettable.

(By the buy, seriously the best place to buy The L Word is ebay along with most DVDs, just make sure it's the actual version and not a cheap asian import. Season four will begin filming next year around March.

Aw, it's mindless entertainment and I really liked the first season.
Gotta warn you though, the 2nd and especially third seasons are
just horrible. They axe Marina (imo the hottest one) and Jenny gets
progressively more bizarre/ridiculous. Regardless, I thought it had
some yummy sex scenes %)

I think the sex scenes were too short! The ones between Jenny and Tim always were longer. Just when they looked like they were getting to the good bits in the all girl scenes they went to something else!

i fucking love this show. it is on demand right now, and this past few weeks, i have watched 28 episodes in a row. i have my little old grandma staying with me for a few weeks, and she comes out now and says "is that the lesbian show?" before she sits down to get comfy with me watching tv lol

my complaints, character wise are tina and jenny. tina is just a bad actress, and not sexy at all, so whoever said they are loading this show with sexiness has a low expectation of beauty. (IMO) the only thing you could really say is they are not putting fatties on there....none of these chicks are necessarily beautiful, except for jenny, but she is such a drama queen and so fucking boring and stupid, it ruins it. makeup can make most people attractive :) and if you want to complain bc they aren't putting on ugly chicks, you should be happy they made that beautiful kelly lynch ugly as hell and wierd in drag. of all the lezbos i have known, i never knew any who went to that length. anyway...

my fave is alice, she is so damn cute and fun. if i had to pick a coochie to lick, it would be hers.

while the show is obviously not going to be realistic, it is fucking television. it isn't going to portray a lesbians life as accurately as real fucking life.

my complaints are that they focus too much on sex, as they do in queer as folk, another of my faves. you don't see this much fucking in straight tv. i feel as though it feeds the bullshit that these asshole fundies who hate on the LGTB community live for....bu that is just my paranoia. it isn't as though these shows are on pat buchanan's and james dobsons what to watch lists. so i guess it doesn't really matter....anyway, great show!

I've still only see the first season :( A chick that i was seeing before my last girlfriend said she has the 2nd and 3rd season and would come over and watch it with me. Then when i told her that "i'm not really into girls right now" and would like to be friends yada yada she doesnt want to lend it to me anymore cos she says she cant sit next to me and not touch me and said "why do you want to watch it anyway, you're not into girls right now"

gah! shes so bitter - anyway.....

true - theres no fat chix but there isnt many fat chicks in tv/movies anyway

I like Alice too - she would be the one i would date out of all of them. Definitely would have sex with Shane though - yummy hehe

I don't think it focuses on sex TOO much, well it does but there are other issues such as having a baby, finding a sperm donar etc, arts and religious freaks etc

Shane is great, found the series a bit too glam though. Most of the lesbians I know are more down to earth. I found it interesting that none of them seem to have any respect for relationships - e.g. Bette cheats on Tina, Shane sleeps with a married woman and Marina pursues Jenny despite her boyfriend. Anyone else make this observation?

Yeah i used to watch it during season 1 and some of season 2. The only problem with it was that at first it was on during a regular time slot and then they would change the time every week. When season 2 started they didn't even advertise that it was back on and i missed half the episodes. Its not a brilliant show but i liked it, mum and i would stay up and watch it.

yeah i guess that's never really bothered me cos you need sex in a show (cheating and what not) so you have all that spiciness 8o

i have just been turned on (literally!) to this show recently. never got the pay channels like HBO and showtime (it comes on showtime in the states). axed my cable several months ago and recently got new service with showtime for 3 months...but the show is "off" right now.

i don't know all the characters' names....i know shane. and honestly, she's "ok". NICE body and i like her style, but i dunno...whatever. at the end of this latest season, shane was gettin it on with some blond chick who had a son. now SHE is hot...DarthMom..now THAT'S a puss i wouldn't mind sittin down to!

i can't wait for the show to pick back up again, but i won't have showtime. i'm going to have to purchase these or get someone to burn em for me. i find it entertaining for a drama show, and i dont' watch dramas. :\
