This premiered last thursday, July 16th on the sci-fi channel. For those who don't know, this series is based on the movie Stargate and involves the military, who use the 'stargate' to go through wormholes to visit other planets (and even those in other galaxies).

I don't actually have a TV, but I have a clever fiance who downloads things for me.I love the movie and I have seen a few episodes of the ensuing tv series, and enjoyed them as well (though not as much as the movie). Lately I've been hugely into sci-fi and since childhood I've been fascinated by Atlantis myths. So you can imagine my expectations for this were pretty high!

SGA did not disappoint me! The set and special effects were excellent, and very aesthetically pleasing -- whoever visualized Atlantis did a fantastic job. I was pleased with the casting. The main person leading the expedition to Atlantis is Dr. Weir, an attractive and passionate female. Then there is an irish medical doctor (dr. Beckett) with a great sense of humour. Major (John?) Sheppard, a young (hot) man with a very adventurous streak (and who doesn't like mindlessly obeying commands) is my favourite character. I'd say he's a male military version of me. ;)

The premiere's plot is both surprising and intriguing, and you can bet I am hanging on the edge of my seat for the next one. The show is also low on the cheese factor (having only brief, tolerable moments), which is nice for a sci-fi show.

Highly recommended!

I had been wanting to watch this but I somehow missed the premeire, but with any luck they'll show it again before the second episode comes on.

I love Stargate. SGA looks like it'll be a winner. The first episode kind of kicked things into gear a little too fast though if you ask me...

i love the original series. is this actually *connected* to it in anyway, as a continuation? or are they entirely seperate?

The last two episodes of last seseaon on stargate lead to the beggining of stargate atlantis. it was more of a hand off than an ongoing parralell between the two. They stranded them on the far side of a different galaxy. with the inability to get back al la voyager. I really enjoyed the show the new villians are scary enough to intrugue me yet stupid enough for the stargate team to outsmart them. they seem very borgesque only they suck teh life force from people. they view everything that isnt them as food. calling various worlds with humans thier feeding grounds. i enjoyed the tayla charecter she seems very amazonian in build and has a gentle way about her. http://www.scifi.com/stargate for episode guides. you should be able to access the sister site of atlantis through that link. so yeah i know of like 4 bay area bluelighterrs into that show we should have a meetup everyweek and watch it.

I loved the movie.. never got into the series

Oh c'mon, in comparison to the show the movie is weak.

Think about it, Kurt Russell vs. Richard Dean Anderson. Jack O'Neal is supposed to be a kind hearted jackass that makes you laugh at every turn. Kurt russell is not that lovable McGuyver-like O'Neal in the movie. Where as Anderson is one of the key elements to keeping Stargate SG-1 a sci-fi legend. And I'm sure that I am not the only one that feels this way.

My roommate got me hooked on the show and so far I have gotten 3 of my friends into the show. One friend of mine at first hated the show because he never really gave it a chance. After I got him to watch Atlantis, it was all over.

Check you're local listings with your cable or satelitle provider because tommorrow on the sci-fi channel they are showing a brand new episode of both SG-1 And SGA

*sigh*

I enjoyed the Stargate SG1 series when it was showing in Perth WA but they kepts taking it off then putting it back on and so on. Looks like i may have to download the series that channel 7 evily decided not to air.

I am totally obsessed with both SG1 & Atlantis and was over the moon when Sky 1 began running both new series at the same time about a month ago.
Atlantis takes on so much more of the story line and is beginning to answer many questions from previous SG1 episodes(origin of ancients etc).
Recently though i'm thinking the producers have blown so much of the budget on the amazing effects for Atlantis that for the entire new SG1 series they've barley left the confines of Earth.I'm still only on about the 5th episode though so hopefully they'll be of gate hopping again soon.

Just watched the first series finale, fuck me they can't leave it hanging on like that.Anyone got any spoilers as to what happens in the first episode of the second series??
Plus does anyone know when sky one will show the second series in the UK??
