Hey Guys and Girls,

I'm a researcher for a new show that takes place in the south in the early seventies. I'm looking for slang terms for any and all drugs that were around during that period. I've found lots of drug reference websites, but none specific to the sixties and seventies. Any specific slang terms and their associated drugs would be much appreciated.

Hey dude welcome to bluelight, I think this topic would be better suited in the drug culture section where you'll most likely get a better answer. I'll notify a mod and and he should move it over. All the best.

You may want to give us a little more information, such as the type of people that will be using and discussing drugs, as slang terms differ depending on race, age, geographical location, socio-economic status, LE/user, etc...

For example, a mother discussing cannabis might call it "dope," but to her son, "dope" means heroin. He calls cannabis "pot" (in the 70s), or dank/trees/herb/headies/bud/weed in the modern era...

Do you get my point? I know you may not want to give away to much information, but if you don't give us enough then you won't get accurate answers (and you won't be able to tell the difference most likely).

I grew up in the 70s. Marijuana was definitely known as "dope", and some of my younger friends find that hilariously funny. :) I still refer to it as such sometimes.

I had never seen a hard drug in my life till the eighties, but I know that, in the area in which I lived, heroin was known as "horse."

This was northern Ohio.

I think 'blow' was still called 'blow' back then, based on movies like Boogie Nights and Blow. Blow is cocaine btw.

The show I'm researching takes place in Vietnam (during the war) and in Memphis, all in the late 60's and early 70's. Any and all slang, drug related and not, would be helpful. This is a major cable network production. As soon as it is announced, I'll let you guys know more about it.
