ontop of that, for the few minutes I seen this at a mates house, they made a homeless person drink a beer bottle full of piss for 5 bucks - or something like that.

i saw the original years ago, it was produced in my hometown SD ... the guys got in major trouble there, so now they're based outta Vegas.

I'd probably think it was messed up, inhumane etc. too if I hadn't had one too many run-ins with drunk bums asking for money or merely trying to start a fight. fuck 'em.
 
SAN DIEGO (REUTERS) -- Two men who allegedly paid street people to fight each other as part of the Internet video sensation "Bumfights" have been arrested in San Diego, police say.
The arrests of Las Vegas residents Zachary Bubeck, 24, and Ryan Edward McPherson, 19, followed a three-month probe by the La Mesa Police Department into the "Bumfights" tapes, Lt. Raul Garcia said. La Mesa is a suburb of San Diego.

Bubeck surrendered Monday, and detectives arrested McPherson in La Mesa two weeks ago, Garcia said Tuesday.

Police said they were still looking for two other Las Vegas residents, as well as others who may have been involved in the production of "Bumfights."

Producers claim to have sold more than 300,000 copies of "Bumfights" over the Internet for $19.99 each.

"Bumfights, Vol 1" -- touted by its producers as "the fastest-selling independent video" featuring "drunks" and "crack-heads" -- shows bedraggled men engaging in fistfights and acts of self-abuse, such as running headlong into steel doors and leaping off bridges.

Police say the "Bumfights" producers persuaded street people to fight for the camera in exchange for cash payments, food, liquor and hotel rooms but warned the participants not to tell authorities about the remuneration.

One person broke his leg during a taping session in La Mesa, and producers threatened another witness in the case, police said.

Bubeck and McPherson were charged with conspiracy, solicitation of a felony crime and illegally paying people to fight.

That is the most revolting footage I've seen, ever! It's fucking revolting that people enjoy shit like that. Watching some crack hog with no teeth making homeless people degrade themselfs for money is fucking stupid and revolting.

The fact that people make money off this crap is so annoying. Most homeless people are mentally ill and have either fallen through the cracks, or just don't get the help they need because of the shitty healthcare system here in general. You can argue that the bums are willing and get compensated, but that doesn't mean that they aren't being taken advantage of. People fucking suck. :|
 
I only really watch it for the brawls, none of the shit that the bums do. But Bling the crack head/dealer is a fucken laugh. Just his voice gets me started.

...but I don't think liking it makes you a "sociopath".

Nobody hear enjoys 100% purely wholesome and educational forms of entertaiment. While I think "Bumfights" is sick and fucked up, I have to admit that a lot of the shit I like is considered sick and fucked up by some. (I liked a lot of "Jackass", I just posted in the "MXC" thread. I watch gory movies, pornography, pro wrestling, UFC, martial arts.) Too each their own, I guess.

^^^ not really man, wouldn't that make me (and you, i suspect) sociopaths too? i hate most people, and thus are horribly anti-social. 'normal' people would probably call it a disorder, too.

anyway, i do think liking it makes you fucked up (regardless of the label). i too enjoy a lot of things that other people might consider "fucked up" (like porn, gruesome films, and natalie imbruglia), but there's a line to draw. and the line is where someone else is actually being harmed - i like violent films, but i wouldn't if they were *real* for instance.

i dunno, i'll leave it that, 'cause it'll end up too in-depth and this really is just supposed to be a thread about this show, but yeah, i think you're a fuck-up if you like it.
 
Ah well I guess there are varying degrees of sociopathy...

But Bum fights crosses my subjective line of reasoning between metaphorical good and evil.

And I think that the vast majority of people who enjoy this are the kind of people that also enjoyed blowing the neighourhoods pets and strays heads off with fireworks.
 
the comparison between Jackass and Bumfights isn't even in the same playing field. Jackass characters did things to themselves the Bumfights people are just doing things to others.
