Battlestar Galactica is coming

I saw recent adverts on telly that show a remake of this to be aired in the coming weeks on free to air in Australia. Has this been out in the US or UK yet? Was it any Good? i won't watch it and have the good memories of this show sullied by a crappy remake.

Until told otherwise, i am very exited=D

If its a REMAKE it will never be as good as you remember the original to be. I loved that show.

yeah it's been out in the states for a little while. it seems like people like it. personally, i think it blows. it's slow and boring. i sat down and watched about 6 back to back episodes one saturday, i really was trying to get into it, at some point i just gave up and realized i wasted 6 hours that i could have spent doing nothing at all. :)

one more thing, i am reeeeally tired of the tough girl type that smokes cigars and starts fights with her male superiors. so dumb. i thought they would have realized how outdated all of that is.

I watched a few episodes of this last night on SciFi. I'd seen a lot of previews and it seemed like people liked the show for the most part, and I didn't have anything else to do, so I watched some of it. Not too bad, but I don't see what was so special about it. I really did like the one episode I watched though, about some revolutionary author who took over a prison ship to force the government into holding elections. I feel asleep a few minutes into the next episode they showed though.

The miniseries that launched it was rather slow. But, this is honestly a rather good remake. It takes the tone of a serious military drama. They've reworked the cylons significantly, in fact the robots now believe in some sort of God.

I can't stand the Stargate shows (either of them) and this is the best thing since the first 3 seasons of Farscape that SciFi produced, IMO.

It's topical since we're at war right now. The acting is pretty darned good, with a couple of mid-level actors of some repute (which is pretty good for the scifi channel).

I'd say give it a whirl. If you can stick with it through the miniseries, and into the actual episodes of the show, I think you'll enjoy it.

They've really stepped-up their explanation of the enemy technology, which I always appreciate. The science behind it all seems a bit more concrete than the original.

As a kid, I wasn't a huge fan. But the way they've decided to revisit it is pretty well done. :)

making starbuck and boomer women was a bad choice.

the epsiode posted about earlier with the revolutionary....

look close, thats richard hatch who played apollo on the original series. he went on to become a sci fi author and has wrote a whole series of galactica books.

I disagree. I think the new Battlestar series is way better than the first. Where the first was low-budget where they had to keep showing the same damn special effect over and over from different angles, this new one is almost movie quality. Not simply in effects. It simply has that look. Great acting, well thought out plots, and very fresh takes on the old show. For example, starbuck is a girl, and the cylons are more cybernetic (part flesh, part machine). They also managed to keep a lot of th eold stuff in like the viper aircraft are all the old original ones because the new ones were supposedly susceptible to cylon computer viruses. Anyway, this is the best new sci-fi series to come along since SG-1 IMO.

Both series will be remembered for very different reason. The first one will never be remembered as being that significant, where as this series is touching on a subject that a serious drama might not be able touch upon (as we all know, Americans tend to get uppity when a topic is too close to home but when some time passes it's fertile dramatic ground for a new movie/series/etc.). Good scifi can play around in these areas without offending, and often times without the audience realizing they were watching something that was paralleling real issues/events.

Example: cylon agent gets into the ship w/ a guest pass and uses a bomb strapped to his chest to do his damage, sacrificing himself for his cause (the cylons believe in a God program of some sort that dictates everything). If this had been a show about the military and a dramatized suicide bomber had blown-up US troops, it probably would have been seen as controversial (especially the graphic scene where they show burned victims in hospital-like area of the ship).

I'm pretty much hooked. I'm really hoping this makes it 4+ seasons and can remain entertaining. :)

Not obsessed but i do like it. Battle Star Galactica was pretty much the first TV show i started watching, I remember when it came on, I was about 4. So i've been a fan for a long time.

Yep. Totally obsessed :)

Can't wait for season 2 :) although we'll probably be shafted again over here in Australia and have to wait a lot longer :(

But hey, that just means that I'll have to use the wonders of the interweb again ;)

CB :)

I got angry that i missed a few episodes so i stopped watching but i hope they come out with a DVD when its all over, but i saw the first mini-series part and it really is an awesome show.

I haven't seen the first one, but I can't imagine it could be better. This new BSG is hands-down my favourite dramatic (non-comedy) TV series, EVER.

It was a stroke of genius making Starbuck a female (same with Boomer)...it's a much more balanced cast now with more females in it.

As my favourite LJ icon says: my starbuck is hot, theirs has syphilis. =D

I'm so psyched that the second season will be a full 20 eps. I can hardly wait till July 15th.

In the meantime, I'll just have to amuse myself with as much BSG kara/lee smutty fanfic as I can get my hands on. ;)

Obsessed? No. But, it's pretty darn good. Best sci-fi show right now IMO. This coming from a huge stargate fan.

I'm looking forward to catching the new Dr. Who the BBC has just produced. Not sure if/when it'll show here. Anyway, one of the characters is apparently omni-sexual. Loves men, loves women, loves robots. :D

^^^
You like Stargate too? *melts* You know that SG-1, Atlantis, and BSG are all season premiering the same day, in a row, 8-11 pm?

I've heard lots of good things about the new Dr. Who but haven't seen any of it.

This board is seriously lacking in sci-fi fans it seems...

Btw, some of you boys might like the Helo/Apollo smut out there. :D

^I looooove sci-fi shows, but I've been without the Sci-fi channel for so long I haven't seen anything in recent years. :(

I've been meaning to check this one out as I liked the original Battlestar Galactica.
