Turn that FROWN upside down jnr, or not. Why the upside down smile?

^^ haha I'd have to agree. That unnatural, fat lipped look isn't pretty; it's a far shot from naturally full lips.... maybe with the exception of mick jagger....

I believe there was a thread devoted to the fluoride issue in Second Opinion, I'll try to dig it up for you. EDIT: found it! It was in Healthy Living. IMHO there is abundant research on the positive properties of fluoride and what it can do to a populations general dental health. The amount that is put into drinking water is negligible and has not been proven to cause any ill-effects.

Also, before I close my mouth in this topic, Busty has told me about several children he has treated who were born to somewhat 'alternative' parents who avoided fluoride at all costs - to the point of not even using toothpaste that contained it.
Cut to their child turning 4 or 5 and coming in to see him at work with a mouth full of rotten baby teeth. On both occasions the children had to have all of their baby teeth removed. Thankfully one of the parents decided to use fluoride on their next child and even went to the effort of putting fluride tablets in their water [as at the time QLD didn't have it in the water]. Surprise surprise, that child's teeth were in great health as they were developing.

Not giving your children proper dental or medical care is tantamount to child abuse in my book. I know it's not the easiest thing to do with dentistry not being subsidised, and I do think there is a definite case for a dental medicare-like scheme. I just don't think it's fair to suffer later in life for poor, mis-informed choices your parents make on your behalf when even the government goes to such great lengths to try to improve dental health with adding fluoride to the drinking water. 8)

Okay, so I have drunk fluoridised water all my life, used fluoridised toothpaste most of my life (yes I am one of those crazies that no longer uses toothpast with fluoride in it), I brush my teeth regularly and next week I have to have 3 fillings, which can be added to the 3 teeth that I have had extracted, and multiple fillings over my life, so I am afraid fluoride has done Jack Shit for me :(.

There are many many communities around the world that do not have fluoride in the water (and you are right COTB the amount is very low in the water supply). These communities don't have teeth falling out everywhere.

Anyway, back to the dentist next week :(

And Busty, I am sorry I have a total fear of you and your kind. It is brought on by having your mouth butchered as you grow up by the British National Health Service, wish I had grown up in Australia, might have had better teeth.

Fluoride isn't a cure-all. It simply helps tooth health and prevents some kinds of problems. If you don't care for your teeth or are genetically pre-disposed to having issues, you still will even if you drink fluoride water.

Lots of people have a fear of dentists, I think Busty's used to working in one of the most hated professions on Earth. :p
Just a tip for you though basieguy, if you're really anxious try to get the dentist to give you nitrous during the treatment. It can really calm you down and helps with the general anxiety being in the chair can bring. Best of luck. <3

Or you can get this green thing to suck on, I can't remember the name of it. Or they can prescribe you a valium.

I didn't realise Dentists used Penthrane (Methoxyflurane) whistles. Learn something new every day!!

Ooh I had one of those when I broke my arm.

I remember it as tasting really yummy, wonder if it actually does or if my brain decided that's just what it wanted to remember.

This is cool. It hooks up to the Nitrous....

I would so get one of these but
1. I don't want to get a rep and have to treat kids all day and
2. I would probably hook it up to GTA on the PSP and never go home at the end of the day :(

I don't know why, but i actually really enjoy the dentist. Even the painful things - like getting needles and teeth ripped out - the lot. It doesn't phase me at all. I love getting my teeth checked out and making sure everything is ok.

Well I managed to get through the basic clean, three fillings on Tuesday, I will do what I did yesterday, stare at the ceiling and try to zone out. I guess I am pretty lucky to have only 3 fillings to be done, it has been over 10 years since my last visit, and I guess I am one of those pre disposed to poor tooth condition. Anyways I will keep my mind of it till Tuesday and I hope to be fine. :)

But will keep the nitrous idea in the back of my mind, thanks COTB

Yeah, that's it! It tasted ok to me, I don't know about really yummy. Was kind of annoying that it wears off in about 5 minutes so I had to keep telling them to get their fingers out of my mouth, I had to suck it.

PROTIP: put your finger over the carb thing to suck more in, just like a bong!

:( I woke up with a little chip out of one of my front teeth the other day. Probably as a result of grinding while asleep.... I wonder if busty needs new patients?

Yeh for medical professionals they're certainly scary!

^You'll be OK. It's better to have them repaired now rather than having them develop into a really nasty problem down the track. :)

My frown is my phone coming back from being repaired wiped of all of my sentimental photos, graphics, text-messages and contacts - that last one was the kicker! Thankfully I backed up my phone a year ago so I at least have those contacts, but I'm still very miffed. :|

I'm also having to re-learn how to use the damn thing. Who knew spending 3+ months using a spare phone would completely remove all memory of how to use the previous one?

Okay so I survived, two fillings at the front, one at the back. Dentist was really good, only broke out in a cold sweat once. Phew!!! Made my next appointment already October, 2019 =D
