For ordinary, law-abiding citizens, trying to get through airport security can be stressful even under the best of circumstances. The airport is hardly the proper venue for a practical joke.

Case in point: A “fun loving” security officer with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at the Philadelphia International Airport pretended to find a bag of cocaine in at least two passengers’ bags.

It was a prank that he, but not the travelers, thought was “funny.” One of the passengers freaked out, with good reason, and reported the incident.

This occurred last January, but further details just became public this week under the Freedom of Information Act.

The Philadelphia Inquirer explains:

The TSA officer was supposed to be checking equipment instead of passengers, the documents said, and the white substance he had with him was creatine powder, not cocaine.

The Smoking Gun, which obtained the documents, says the screener was a bomb appraisal officer of all things and may have been pranking “unsuspecting targets” because he was bored.

The TSA officer was working near a passenger screening checkpoint “collecting data for several new pieces of equipment that are currently being evaluated by Northrop Grumman,” according to a TSA memo. Since individual data collection phases could each take up to ten minutes, the worker apparently decided to fill up the time by pranking travelers: “While the data was being collected,” the bomb appraisal officer “began to engage passengers.”

As a creatine user and as someone who got checked for a randoms explosives test where I got some strange material rubbed all over my hands and was taken out of line for the whole ordeal.... I don't think it should be cool for the guards to be fucking around if I couldn't while they did that!

Ya that would be hilarious to be all set to go on a trip somewhere, but instead you get all your shit searched and arrested for something that's not yours. Comedy at it's finest.

I used to work in an airport, and I'm telling you guys in all seriousness: the TSA employees are the last people you would EVER want guarding you.

They are an absolute joke. Complete idiots who are hired to put on a show and act like they are protecting us when they are doing absolutely nothing important whatsoever.

Philly TSA employees are particularly bad, apparently. There was a case in August where a woman got her wallet searched, the guards found some financial records they decided were suspicious, and they ended up calling her husband to make sure she wasn't leaving him and taking his money.

Kinda of a dick thing to say, but this is kinda of funny.

I can just imagine the board as fuck security guy that does this same shit all day having a bit of fun.

Oh yeah real funny getting arrested for something you didnt do and missing your flight. Yeah a right laugh 8)

If i was one of the passengers id sue them for every bit of cash i could.

I'm gonna agree with demon66, it sounds liek it could be funny. And to the people saying it wouldn't be funny if it happened to us. Of course it wouldn't, alot of things wouldn't be funny happening to us but can still be funny happening to someone else. Almost every comedy has people getting themselves into some sort of trouble we'd rather avoid. Hell, I laugh when Jerry somehow tricks Tom, even things which would realistically kill a cat, and I don't want to die.

But regardless of the fact I can see it as somewhat humorous, it is messed up. And it'd piss me off if it happpened to me

I never laugh when people get hurt and Tom and Jerry are cartoons, which should be an immediate tip-off on the difference between fiction and real.

Additionally watching someone slip on a banana peel and watching someone get arrested are extremely different situations.
