I'm trying to make myself to 3 days without my hydro, and it's not even 10 am and I'm itching bad to take some. My tolerance is so high I'm feeling nothing after my regular dose, and I don't want to go too much higher.

DISTRACT ME!! I might grab a xanax or something to help me...last time I lasted about a half day lol, here's hoping I can force myself to wait longer.

If you are taking hydro on a regular daily schedule and have been doing so for any significant period of time a 3 day break is not going to significantly lower your tolerance.

All you are going to do is make yourself go through withdrawals and feel like shit for 3 days. Since you will have cleared your system of most of the hydro and will be in significant withdrawal your first dose is going to feel a good bit stronger due to the relief but after a couple of doses you actual tolerance is going to be about the same as it was before your short break.

If you are really looking to lower your tolerance you need to take a much much longer break, or try tapering your dose over a few months.

When it comes to opiates there is no magic re-set button. It just takes time and lots of it.

well crap OnandOff, that is NOT what I want to hear lol. I hate tapering! I might try some poppy seed or kratom to make tea with this weekend (my supply is almost gone which is part of my issue), never tried that. I have no desire to spend 3 days in withdrawal to not have it help my tolerance...UGH. I'd like to say if I had an endless supply I wouldn't even consider tapering...but I suppose the truth is if we all had endless supplies of our DOC we'd prob not be here. CRAP I'm already feeling shitty.

ONandOff hit it on the head basically. In order to have a significant lowering of your tolerance, a break much longer than 3 days will be necessary. I have detoxed in jail a number of times, and then used again once I got out. Even 18 days didn't lower my tolerance that much. It did indeed lower it, but then again after 2 days of using it went right back up to where it was before the break.

There is no free lunch with opiates. You got on the bus, and you've got to stay on for the ride. If you are prescribed them, I would advise you to just take as little as possible so you do not go into withdrawal. That way maybe you could save up a few extra pills so every once in a while you can take a bigger dose to try and get a 'high' out of them periodically. If you have benzos on hand, they are a godsend for the anxiety/RLS/insomnia associated with withdrawal.

It certainly doesn't sound like you want to stop taking them, so your best bet is just to take them as prescribed. Otherwise if you are trying to get off of them and don't want to kick them cold turkey, you need to come up with a tapering schedule, but your mindset currently does not seem geared towards obediently following a tapering schedule. Tapering will still have some minor discomfort, though. Personally I prefer to just do it cold turkey, I have always had the most success doing so this way. Tapering you'll feel mildly shitty for a long time, but ocld turkey is just feeling really shitty for 3-5 days. It doesn't sound like your tolerance is really high though so stopping codl turkey wouldn't be that bad, especially if you have benzos and buy some immodium as well.

As BrokedownPalace said, you WILL lower your tolerance, for about one use/day maybe. Within two days you will be exactly where you are. Unless you are willing to do some suffering daily to actually get your tolerance down.

Yeah. This isn't really other drugs material, though. I am going to close this. If you have any specific questions about tapering/tolerance issues that you would like to address, PM me and we can discuss re-opening it. But in the mean time you can use the search engine, we have a tapering mega thread, an opioid withdrawal mega thread, and myriads of threads about hydrocodone dosing.
