Not sure to put this under electronic music, or non electronic music, cause to me, the new stuff thats coming out is like if EDM and dubstep and hiphop had a mutant threesome baby....and I fucking love it, anybody else here feel me on that?

Examples please.

Youtube would be a good place to start.

I know I have been getting into some Future Garage/2-Step ish. I like a lot of the Deep Medi Dubstep as well.

:)

A lot of it has bad production value. Theres some really poorly produced Trap music out there. Some of it is good though. A lot of dubstep is like that too.

I think its what happens when people are sampling old records, or weak samples of Biggie, etc. and then have the super polish of hi-def beats. It just sounds awful. It reminds me of early Rave music where you'd have some 11k sample from some film and a Hardcore beat or something looped.

Porno Kings - Up to no good is a great example of this, where they made a top 10 hit off of samples from other people's tracks. Like hip hop lol. I laugh cause the synth isn't original.

I feel you on the transfer up rate.

The contrasts can be irritating....just doesn't seem full. I guess polished would be a better word, although raw and stripped down can be nice.

I am surprised that there are not people out there actively creating new samples that emulate or outright immitate older sounds from past decades.

Trance probably is the biggest genre that does this again and again. I think anyways. Where they'll take a a hit from say 2001-3 or something and then redo the synths and beats with modern production value, I dunno like more layered detuned supersaws or something with tighter editing, a bigger drumroll build or something.

Well, its weird too in that the gear is still around, you can still go out and buy a SP1200 or modded:

We probably need to get over the nostalgia factor with the 80s sounds. The Roland Junos and stuff, TB, TR etc. I mean the Grimes record that she put out is basically a big Enya nod.

Some of the stuff that Diplo, Mad Decent, Animal Collective is cool where they are taking a carribean vibe, or stuff youd find in a dancehall - or African sounds for beats and reinterrupting it into a Western thing. The fact that the Psy track got so big is something, where people dont give a shit if the track is in English or not. I'm just catching on to the Harlem Shake vibe now and the track was released last year?

lol...honestly, this type of music deserves to be in the NEMD forum or the proposed hiphop forum (I hope I haven't said too much). It's just electrofied crunk rap.

This is the trap I love and I'm talking about

Which is why I put in EMD

But yes I totally agree that a lot of it is poorly produced, but most music is now-a-days. Most electronic music is made by bedroom producers who don't really know too much about producing high quality music and just pump out song after song. And yep, it is a lot like dirty south music...and like ratchet music, but I love it for parties when bitches come up when your DJing and say "Can you play something I can shake my ass too?" Now I got some 808 bass music that I can get down with.

trap is the shit man. chief keef, gucci, juicy j, all that shit is fire. the beats are better than most the rappers tho IMO.

best producers:
lex luger
young chop
mike will
southside
808 mafia
a bunch of others i'll list later.

but ya i love trap, and i come from a boom bap backround, started listening to rap at like 7 in 1993-1994.

my only problem is most trap rappers don't have shit to say, as long as they ride them 808s it's all good though,

I don't know how I feel about flosstradamus' total recall ep. They stole records from Butterfly Effectz - In Your Life and Second Identity.

It'd make sense if it was just something they did during a DJ set. Putting it out there as a weak EP and not mentioning the original artists is just weak. They aren't making money off the release I guess. I guess its like if I took Michael Jackson Thriller and added Trap beats and called it "Zoombie Moonrunner"
