Truth/Lie

This theme is just too fun for my lazy ass to pass up.

  1. At a point in my life (over the course of about six years) I would - voluntarily - spend a weekend camping in weather that didn't get above -40. At least once per winter, if not two or three times. And had a great time every time.
  2. I once ran into a tree while snowboarding, avoiding hitting the tree with my head by a split second head movement, and fucked my shoulder up instead.
  3. I can shine a laser pointer from my couch and hit the Alberta Legislature.
  4. I have a very hard time falling asleep unless I watch at least one episode of The Simposns or Futurama. Two is better, but never mix-and-match.
  5. I collect old scientific equipment. I have a manual microscope, an old set of beakers, an old miligram balance and a handful of half-broken but cool-looking optical instuments.

dammit! this one's hard...

I'm going to go with number 3 because I'm skeptical that you would be able to see the little red dot on the building. Shit!!!! no! I'm changing my answer to number 4 because I think you may have a picture or model of the Alberta Legislature in your place

I'm with spork... you are fibbing about Number Four

5 is def true!!! <3 I remeber u telling me. I think number 2 is true as well.

I guess number 3 because it was a lot shorter then the others. lol lame I am.

Tee hee. This is fun! I'll see if there are any other guesses (coughmaricough), and offer the answers later tonight.

Bah, I got impatient.

1: True. Winter camping was great fun, but you a) need the right gear and b) spend ALL your time keeping warm. Still, if I had the gear and a few people crazy enough to go, I'd head out in a second.

2: True. My left shoulder sounds like a cement mixer, but I can still feel things below my neck. A pretty good trade-off, I think.

3: True. I said that I could hit it, not that I could see the dot though. Mainly meaning that I could see the Legislature from my apartment. In fact, I can see it better from my couch than my balcony, which is where that photo was taken. It's the little sand-castle looking dome about 3/4 of the way to the left of the image.

4: True. Over the years it's become a discriminative stimulus for me, and is almost like an off switch. On the plus side, if I want to take a nap, it's really easy. On the minus side, if someone ever wants to watch an episode of The Simpsons or Futurama, I have a tough time staying awake.

5: False. While I do have an old school microscope, I don't collect scientific equipment. Although after hearing stories about the things that my old boss found as a grad student and postdoc, I think that I'd like to. The milligram balance from the 30s was pretty cool-- he found it in a dusty corner of his lab, and his supervisor was cool with him taking it. IIRC, the pivot was a bit damaged, so it didn't work properly or something. Since old balances used essentially very sharp (usually obsidian or something equally hard) blades for their pivots, it was too expensive to fix.

It was really hard to think of a lie. If I can get another one I might post one more before the end of the theme.
