The show True Blood, I find it real funny the way every single person is constantly speaking in their heads and thats supposed to be them "thinking". Thats not thinking, thats just speaking in your head. She'd have trouble reading my mind since all she'd hear is music playing since I don't talk in my head. And her asking me a question then listening for a response, I'd have fun making her believe all kinds of crazy shit. Or I could respond by playing a series of beeps, she'd be thinking I think in morse code. What about you, are your thoughts overlayed by this internal speech like the characters in True Blood? If so I can guarantee thats not you thinking, your thoughts are what control the internal dialogue. You can think silently. My mind went silent during a psychotic episode and I never switched the internal dialogue back on because its like a ball and chain for my thoughts, words take so long to sound out. This doesn't make me any smarter or quicker thinking than anyone else though so thats an obvious indication that nobody thinks in words, they think much more rapidly than that.

It would be difficult for them to illustrate telepathy using feelings, images, and other abstract content. Choosing to use words was probably more practical as a plot device.

Words are probably just really effective at containing and sharing complex thoughts. Force of habit makes us label sensory input with the words we use to share these experiences.

Maybe this is just about really really acute hearing...;)

I have this kind of internal speech in my head. Sometimes I even talk to myself out loud, embarrassing in public.
