Truckload of oxycodone (70,000 bottles) stolen while driver buys cigarettes

^^ Yea and semi's don't go fast at all.. If he wasn't in on it the cops wouldve been able to find these guys.. He must have givin them enough time to get far enough away.. There's just no way man

That's a lot of oxycodone...and gabapentin...and Xanax.

I'm interested in how this whole thing will turn out. I just keep playing the scene from Goodfellas over and over again in my head (when they steal the truck full of cigarettes while the driver is grabbing a cup of coffee).

I thought the same fucking thing when i read the title =D . Actually in Goodfellas they are in on it with the driver and the driver just blames his stolen truck on black people :(

They got away with it. The truck was recovered empty.

That they cleared 30 pallets from the truck that quickly makes me pretty sure this was planned and not just some dude hopping into a running truck. Hope the driver isn't found in some freezer.

Strange how there are no real news stories about this, even though it's probably one of the biggest prescription drug heists in history.

I thought it was strange that some of the dope boys in the hood would have pharmys for sale and way too cheap. They said they had crews that hit trucks and clean that shit out after leavin the plant. This ain't nuthin new or uncommon. But 70,000 bottles...that's the fuckingjackpot.

I said that in relation to the fact that truck drivers are held to a higher standard. I support this by mentioning that most semi's have a sticker on the back with a number to call if you have issues with the driver of said truck's driving.
lol the other I got cut off by one it said "How's my driving, call 800-_________ (the last 7 numbers were missing lol)

Semi truck drivers drive for a living, I believe that they take their job, and driving as a result, more seriously than the average citizen.
You would think, but I've seen many reckless driving truckers in my experience on the road, and also heard many news stories of them killing someone while they are drinking.

I would guess that they like to send scheduled medications together/ or its required under FDA rules.

I'm confused by this in relation to the details in the story.

Don't pharmacies keep oxy and other narcotics in a safe usually? I thought some places even had fake ones on hand in case they were ever robbed?

They would let a truck go out stocked with these drugs and the only security they have is a truck driver and a GPS system? For real? With a load like that I would imagine some kind of security guard or something. I don't even think armored cars carry that much value on board, and that's a fucking armored car!

Edit: Why does the article say "more than 30 pallets" but then they only list the numbers 14, 6, and 9 (equals 29). Were there other drugs on there as well?

Edit 2: I wonder what it would be like to have enough pills of oxy that you submerge yourself in a bathtub full of them?

This kind of reminds me of the times Ive watched brink trucks going into places with loads of cash. Only a driver and a guy who drops the cash off. They both have guns but 2 people with good guns for the job could easily give the 2 guy's a very good reason to not give you any trouble. No sane person is going to put their lives on the line for some company's cash. Ive seen a few couriers drop shit off at really small pharmacies that wouldn't be worth the trouble of holding up but that's it.

This definitely had to be a inside job and these guys really knew what they where doing that's for sure. Knocking over a truck carrying opiates is way easier and far more profitable then say robbing a bank that's for sure.

Jaw-fucking-dropping.

I didn't initially think of it as an inside job, but now that you posters point that out, I can see.

I hope their destination doesn't have a shortage of these drugs, and the patients can still get their supply.
But sheesh, it's good for the "underground" drug industry.

Smart stealing.

I wanna know who is actually dumb enough to leave a car on while they go in the store. I drive a 2000 honda civic and i don't even leave it running to go get cigarettes when I don't have anything in it at all, let alone if I had thousands of prescription pain meds...

I've actually never seen anyone leave their car running, or leave their house open etc.
But my group of friends are pretty secure people, they be safe with everything.

It's an extra 2 seconds to turn the car off and take they keys out.. honestly unless the driver was intoxicated or something, it's blatantly obvious that he's one fuckin' dumb dude, or it was set-up.

Yeah guys, well the jigs up this was all me. I'm now chilling in an unknown location with my own private beach sipping on something expensive....

Hahaha okay I lied but I fucking wish that was me and this is the weird shit I was talking about this happening to my mom the other day and how some of these heists or a lot of these heists are inside jobs. This definitely was one of them but I mean who wouldn't do it if you had the chance and knew you probably could get away with it?

Take a trip to Ithaca in the winter someday. Half the cars are parked running.

Actually, now that I think about it, every cold-weather truck stop I've been to is humming with idled engine noise.

^truckers do this all the time, when i drove cross country a few years back i stopped at all sorts of truck stops and they would park and leave the truck idling. those big trucks take a while to heat up esp since they are diesel, so in the cold why turn the truck off when you can leave it on. plus id be willing to bet most truck drivers are thinking who the hell would steal a semi truck and trailer?

as cool as it would be to think that some incredibly lucky individual just happened across an unlocked running truck filled with rx drugs, its probably more likely that it was an inside job as others have pointed out. i wonder how many shipments that size regularly leave the plant. that robbery could have been planned months in advance, waiting for the company to send out its next big order to their distributor

all they would have to do is get the truck, get it away to a garage or underpass unload it and take the contents somewhere safe. one thing i had thought was that pharm companies put tracking tags in large shipments of drugs to ensure delivery. whoever stole the load would have to destroy all the bottles because it could be traced back by the ndc# and lot #

wonder how long till ppl start seeing a huge influx of xanax and oxy on the street.
